Wow, what an unbelievable rip off. Your service was probably done in about an hour by their most junior mechanic. What was the hourly labour charge? Most main dealers charge £60 + VAT and upwards. A decent local garage will charge about £27 (unless you live in london). At the mileage you are doing a 12 monthly service just before the MOT will be all that is needed, at a cost of less than £100. £179.99 for a service like yours is just robbery.

I would make sure you do something about the cambelt though as the car will be scrap if that goes.

When I had a Golf as a company car in 2003 my local VW dealer, in Warrington, was charging £95 an hour.
  • I would take it down to a local MOT/Service Centre. unipart if one is near you as they offer a nationwide guarantee. Use their garage finder to find your local garage http://www.uccc.co.uk/garage-finder/index.aspx

Correct, apologies. I would be interested to know how much the OP paid there too, but expect it was less than the Ford dealership. Luckily where I live (not in London or the SE) I pay £27 per hour +VAT for labour, and the service is excellent.

Unfortunately I do live in London (outskirts, not central). Nevertheless, the Mazda dealership (which has a good local reputation) is charging us £600-odd for work that the Ford dealership quoted nearly £1,100. And of course they haven't asked us to get a lot of unnecessary stuff done. I haven't seen the breakdown of the quote yet so don't know their labour charge. Will update when I know.
    Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)
    2019 Challenges: Make £300 a month: £9.71/£300 (January)
  • 1.4 Fiesta???

Jeez, ask around your friends and people whos judgement you trust for a good independent workshops, anyone can work on a Fiesta, estimate they are marking the parts up by 200% at least and not stinting on the labour either,

That garage should be shut down, blatant rip off.

Not a rip off, just a main dealer with shareholders. :rotfl:

    £38 for 3 wiper blades?

Well, I'd suggest £15 plus 5 mins fitting (for all 3) :rotfl:

£50 for a cambelt kit, plus an hour of labour. Call it £100 in an independent.

I sincerely hope you haven't jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire. Even if you are devoted to that car, even if it is in otherwise pristine condition, the car isn't worth that amount of money. Even if you are prepared to do all that, you've landed yourself a mystic meg mechanic who things doing the work you've commissioned will fix a misfire.

My crystal ball is suggesting that you work for Unipart.

Go the council for a fair test.
