Accused of bumping car at work

A couple of days ago I was blocked in on the car park at work. I reversed as much as I could without getting too close in the hope that I could squeeze out but to no avail. The security guys managed to contact the owner and they quickly moved their car out for me, everything was fine.
Today I was called over by the security guys who said that the lady thinks I have bumped her car. I immediately denied that this was the case as although I ended up close to her car I definitely did not hit it at any point. I checked over my car and there are no traces of damage, paint etc. What on earth do I do now? They've asked me to speak to her but I really don't do well in these situations and she is rather erm loud...

  • Why should you speak to her? If you didn't do anything. Surely when she moved it she checked there and then?

Exactly. She literally got into her car, moved it and got out again. I saw her yesterday and no mention of it then, presumably she has only just noticed something. I am just worried that as she knows who I am she will just go to straight to my insurance company. Although this is my third year of driving it is my first year of no claims and I don't want to mess it up :(

No need to speak to her, she is the one making the accusation so she needs to approach you. If she goes to your insurance company (how would she know who they are?) then she will need to provide some proof of liability. She sounds like she is trying it on. Just ignore & get on with your life.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

If there is damage on her car asses whether you could have caused it. Its possible she is blaming you for previously unknown damage.

Either by going to a claims management company who would find the Insurers through the MID or by claiming from her own Insurers who would find the details via the MID or by finding who the Insurers are herself and claiming directly from them via https://www.askmid.com

She could contact her own insurers who could contact you direct via your registration number.

She did take that at the time, didn't she? ;)

My advise is to ignore it. She didn't point out any damage at the time to either you or security. She's trying it on.

If you check around the premises there will probably be a notice saying that parking is at your own risk.

There are definitely signs around the car park. Although she didn't take my reg plate, security have a log of all the cars so she could certainly get it if she wanted to. Urgh, surely she shouldn't be accusing anyone of anything if she isn't certain. Security even said 'now she's not saying it is you but she did say you were rather close' Maybe if she hadn't blocked me in I wouldn't needed to have gotten close!

Might be a good idea, as a precautionary measure, to take some close up pics. of the relevant areas of your car. Ideally you need to know where the claimed damage is on her car - particularly the height of the damage above the ground - so that you can take your pics. at that height. That will be your best defence. It sounds as if she's an uncaring driver if she blocked someone in.

This, measure the height of any damage against the height of your bumper, just incase it did happen and the impact was so slow/soft you didn't notice it.
I rolled too close to my garage door the other night and had no idea until the next day when I noticed a slight crease in the door. Not a mark on my car whatsoever.
