  • Dimey - A lovely post. I totally agree and believe some compassion should be used in some of the replies here and if you can't be even a little bit compassionate then perhaps don't say anything at all.

I had to laugh at this statement.

Vets and Medial Doctors are just as qualified as each other, but one deals with humans and the other animals.

We are all human and mistakes do happen. Medical Doctors have even being know to make mistakes

It takes 7 years for vet to qualify and only 5 years for medical doctors. Both professions are there to save lives no matter if it is human's or animal's. As I said mistake is one thing ignorance another.

I do not believe Vets make and pledge to save lives.

You can qualify as a vet in five years.

I don't think OP is only interested in money (Jacques Chirac). Far from it.

I think she's devastated and grief stricken. I think she's put self imposed guilt on herself even though it wasn't her fault. Because it was her Mum's dog, looking after Maxie was the last thing she could do for her Mum and because of what happened, she failed.

OP wants to put that failure right by getting a genuine apology from the person/people responsible for the dog dying. And because (as usual) the organisations involved instinctively closed ranks to protect each other, OP is frustrated that every way she turns, she can't get justice.

The innocent life of a poor little dog means nothing to corporations. Sadly OP doesn't stand a chance and one day she'll have to give up and live with the injustice and her grief.

The vet will get on with her career and not give Maxie a second thought. But Hachett will remember her Mum and little Maxie with love and regret for the rest of her life.

    RIP Maxie.
Hachett, I hope you will soon come to terms with the unfairness of what's happened and put it in a compartment in your mind that allows you to move on in life. I feel very sorry for you. (hug)

Dimey when I read your post I cried, had to go away from computer came back and read it again and again. That is because everything you said is 100% true and in all my postings I could not get that across to people how I felt and how the system failed me but what you did in this one post said everything. Thank you so much for this. X

OP would your mother want to see you put yourself in an early grave with grief and worry. All the reports you have had will never bring Maxie back and i very much doubt you will get the resolution you want.

Once again earthstorm I had no reports done yet. I will get one on 11th of November. It will not get Maxie back ( I am not total idiot) but next time my ex vet makes her clinical judgment she may just look at lab results and take notice hence more animals staying alive.

Do I need to be brainy to be a vet?
Doing a vet degree means that you have to take in a lot of information quite quickly. It is competitive to get on to the degree course and the entry requirements are quite high. Generally, the vet schools require A’s and B’s at GCSE and A level, especially in science subjects.
Do I need to study for years?
    • The veterinary degree course is 5 years long, or 6 years at Cambridge.
    • Many vets also choose to continue studying when they have qualified, e.g a PhD, a Masters degree or a postgraduate Certificate and Diploma offered by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

To train to be a veterinary surgeon you will need to go to university and take a veterinary degree. The universities in the UK offering veterinary degrees approved by the RCVS ... The degree courses are five years in length (six years at some schools).

To my knowledge there is around 10 Universities in the UK that do Vet degree courses and not one of them has a seven year course. Did you make a mistake or was it ignorance?

I don't know. All the vets always say how much longer they have to study to compare to medical doctors. One of the vets said this to my friend. However this is not a issue. 5,6,or 7 years should be enough to know how to read blood test .
