Rather than just pull the USB cable out, it may have helped just to re-boot the computer.
Taking a look at the Device Manager, have drivers been installed for all of the Hardware or are there yellow question marks?

There was a yellow question mark but when I installed netgear the netgear logo was there. Plus im using other usb hubs which worked, I tried the netgear on all my usb ports so there must be something going on with the pc or my adapter but then again I have 2 adapters and you can't say both have gone bust.

ARGHHH doing my head in. I might as well reboot.

YESSS!! FINALLYYYY!!!! I kept on reinstalling software, putting the adapter in different USB ports and restarted computer several time. Dont know how or why but suddenly it just worked, didn't do anything different.
