Trying too hard and getting in a muddle

  • First of all - (((hugs))) believe me - you're not alone

I am in a bout of depression that started a year ago and has been exacerbated by problems at work and in the family.

A couple of weeks ago, my poiesis worker suggested changing my diet - avoiding alcohol, caffeine, codiene and eating low GL foods (gentler than the Aitkens diet).

I was sceptical as it sounded a bit airy-fairy & simplistic but I have given it a go . . . and I am surprised to find that I starting to feel better . . . not an overnight cure or anything dramatic but in the last few days I have noticed a subtle improvement in both mood + energy.

Its something that you can do at home at very low cost - there is lots of info about GL diets in the library and on the 'net - maybe think about giving it a try?

Thank you. Avoiding sugar alcohol and caffeine are what got me through my PND naturally. Having a mother who popped the pills for 30 years it became my determination not to be gripped as she was. So it has been avoidance of drugs that have probably made my recovery longer, but for personal reasons I wanted to stay off them if I can.

Cranial Osteopathy has also been a huge help.

Sugar is my worst spike of all. I made a load of cakes for a Macmillan coffee morning, and made extra for the kids. I normally freeze them, but kept a batch out, and I have pigged them badly, so my intake of sugar has been extreme and my mood always spikes badly after sugar so I think I am on a come down now.

I am taking exercise several sessions a week and trying to get in the habit of always walking the mile to school and then back.

I just wish I could be normal. Whatever that is.

    Thanks again for everyones help
