The SRA Compensation Fund will deal with it.

We purchased through this awful company and finally completed in April (after pretty much a year of me calling them every day). It turns out that we were never properly registered as the new owners with the land registry so now our mortgage lender has taken over the process. I only heard about their closure in a letter from Optima who are dealing on behalf of our lender. I have spoken to both them and Stephensons today (who seem very helpful, though unable to actually give me any specific updates).
I now don't even know if they paid the money we gave them for the stamp duty and can't find this out with HMRC as don't have a reference number. Looks like we should be able to recover costs but the whole thing has been a nightmare. Apparently Stephensons are in the process of going through all the files and will be writing to people about how they wish to proceed but have said to me that it could take up to 6 months to get everything sorted. Good to know we have spent £20,000 renovating and still don't officially own our home! Worth speaking to someone there anyway if you have any concerns and better than waiting for them to write to you I think if you know where you want the paperwork to go.

Hi all... I received an email from Stephensons today telling me how Arc (or Abode) had stopped trading. In my case we purchased a home through them back in 2009.... it was a nightmare but we got there in the end. The letter I have received is not very clear about exactly what action needs to be taken or what they have by way of documents/files etc.

I'm not aware that any money is owed either by them or us, and I believe the house was properly registered with the land registry. So I'm not clear what to do, also as the home is mortgaged apparently my bank need to also state what they want do with any documents that are held.

I'll have to give Stephenson's a call tomorrow but this is really concerning.... really sorry for those that were using them recently and have money sitting in their accounts :(
  • Hi just wondering if anyone has received any money that is to owed to them. I'm going through the SRA but it has been 2 months and I still have not received the money for the sale of my property. I'm really getting desperate now.
