This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Real hi and fly today as having been adding up the September PAD challenge.

Happy first day of retirement to NAR

Redundancy group consultation meeting today, probably the last, but while I feel sick at the thought of it, I need to get it over to move on with my life, so am going in big and brave!

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Good Morning everyone
Well NAR today life takes a turn for the better as its your first day of retirement .I retired in 1995 and can't honestly say I've missed it much.I took off my watch when I got home and I've never worn one since :):) I spent most of my life rushing around trying to cram as much into my life as I could and permanantly glancing at my watch to try and make up time. Then suddenly I had all the time in the world to play with and it was fantastic. Now years later I still have a very full life but doing what I WANT to do instead of what I HAD to do.
I wish you and your OH many happy years to do all the things you put off doing for lack of time.Today you could even sit down and make a list of the things you always fancied doing but couldn't because of work commitments. I learned to swim ,went to Uni visited the US with my oldest friend and have achieved so much that I never had enough time for. There are a few things that my late OH and I didn't get around to on our list but it was more because we thought we had more time together than actually we did.So don't put things off until next year if you can ,enjoy every minute you have.
Today I look after four of my DGS before and after school full time go to various different club and have lots of interests and my days are very full and varied I joined the U3A a little while ago and have had so much fun in the past few months,I also go to a book club, history group and a creative writing group. My hobbies are varied and I am probably busier than I ever was before retiring :):) but life is good and totally different for me.
I swore I'd never turn into one of those old ladies who just sat and watched Countdown with a blanket over my knees :):) and I haven't because I just don't have either the time or the inclination I am far too busy :):):)

Well chums this morning after the school run I am off to my U3A coffee morning for coffee and a chinwag. Then back to Dds to take the mutts for a walk. Then meet two of the DGS from school and feed them a snack, then off again to watch youngest DGS at his cross country run after school thingy. Then take them back to their house until either their Mum or Dad comes home from work .Home to my house for a quick cuppa then off to the pub U3A quiz night tonight.Home by 10.30 and bed.Another 'normal' day in my life no time to get bored thats for sure :):)
Hope everyone has a smashing day, start of a new month and Christmas is looming over the horizon.I shall have to dig out my recipe for mini christmas cakes that I make for my friends in small empty clean baked beans tins .Great little presents for folk who live alone and don't want a big cake
Right must fly I'm in need of some coffee
    Cheers chums

    Morning all
TTFTM, atta girl, put your big girl pants on and go in brave.

Well what a day I had y'day, DD2 phoned, she wanted to go to the DGC's harvest festival so could I look after DGD2? no problem, only DD childminds on a Monday so could I have the mindee as well? Still no problem I've known the mindees mum since she was 15. Both little girls are 3 and get on well most of the time, I gave them lunch, we did colouring, gardening, skipping and smearing every glass surface in the house with sticky fingers.

DD arrived to collect the 2 girls and DGS bounced through the door asking at top speed 'Nanna, mummy said I mustn't ask 'cos you might be tired but mummy has to go out for a couple of hours, so can we stay with you if mummy takes the two little ones away?' No problem, I gave them tea, we did homework, colouring and lots of talking. To my amazement I was still upright and compos mentis when DD2 returned to collect them.

After they'd gone DD1 phoned, she's not feeling to good (I think she may be pregnant) to remind me it's DFGD's birthday in a few days. For once I'm on the ball, I've bought her a book on how to crochet, some hooks and some wool. I've already started her on knitting and she's desperate to crochet as well.

This morning hubby has a Dr's appointment, he keeps insisting everybody mumbles, actually he's deaf so he needs to get that sorted.

After that I'm off to work where I shall cause chaos, I want desks moved as I'm no longer delivering work. I'm laying it out for people to collect, I also need my heater replaced, it fell off the wall at the end of last summer, but the machines won't work if the paper gets too cold and damp. So I'm also going in to work with my big girl pants on and start laying down the law.

To ensure I look as brave as I feel I've treated myself to some new clothes and underwear, size 14!

NAR, please remember now you have retired, don't start a new career of nit picking, I work with 3 ladies whose husbands have retired recently and they are being driven mad by suddenly being told that they aren't loading the DW right, or their tea towels are in the wrong place, one husband is even using a filofax to list his wife's shortcomings.
Anyway, what an essay, I'll bu&&er off now.
    Have a lovely day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

TTFTM - Hope it goes well today.

Misty and overcast here today probably because I have the towels in the WM!
Have the cleaning to do today and a trip to Tesco and Dobbies for some more meat.
Not much else going on, work later and haven't even thought about what's for dinner.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning everyone

NAR - enjoy retirement - and as others have said do the things you want and don't put them off - so you can cram as much in as possible, my dad always says he doesn't know how he had time to go to work and he was in the fortunate position of being able to retire early (he was only just into his fifties).

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Cloudy and overcast but dry here this morning. Washing on the line.

DH up and off to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was again a disjointed one, as DH didn't get home from work until 9.30pm, so the boys and myself had already eaten, I did DH a small meal as he finds it too late to eat very much. Tonight will be fish, chips and beans for the menfolk and probably jacket potato or omlette and salad for me.

Work yesterday was a busy Monday morning and into the afternoon but then eased off a lot in the afternoon, expecting another busy day today though, as it's 1st of the month.

DS1 at college today but DS2 at home as his teachers are on strike, DS1 didn't have college yesterday as they had a training day and have another next Monday - have to try to keep track of who is supposed to be where and when!

    Keep safe and well x

    Noah's school shut for strike.
Meeting his friend and his mum at the park with snacks and letting them have a run!
I had a few cookbooks delivered yesterday so would love a chance to read them today:-)
Noah and Asher both have colds but he's insisting on still going to park. Will be well wrapped up as it looks chilly.
Roast ham and veg for tea tonight.
American visitors house searching again today.
    I'll do some baking later.
One of the books I got was Amish and Mennonite cookbook with some brilliant pickles and bakes in.
    Have good days all
  • Morning everyone!
Huey Lewis and the News were absolutely fantastic last night! We had brilliant seats, front and centre on the slightly raised up bit behind the front of house section (living with a musician I've learned it's always best to be next to the sound guy!)
It was at The Sage in Gateshead, which for those who don't know, is probably one of the best music venues in the world for its acoustic qualities. It's actually 3 seperate buildings in one, and the shape of the halls and the materials they are made from make the acoustics perfect.
You may have seen it on TV though, it's the thing near the Tyne bridge that looks like a big silver slug!

So far this morning I've made our packed lunches, submitted the meter readings to British Gas and paid into my savings account. Feel quite accomplished! On a late shift at work tonight which I hate so that will probably drag! :-(

Hope everyone has a good day!
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j
