Used cosmetics at car boot sales

I am starting to get things together for my second car boot sale and have quite a lot of used cosmestics (mainly nail polishes but have MIRACLE lotions and potions :rotfl: ) that need to go.

Do people sell used cosmetics at boot sales or should I just offer them open to nieces etc and then throw away the unwanted ones?

Opinions appreciated.

Cheers:beer:

People do sell them on ebay, but, really, would you buy used cosmetics? On the other hand, my poor poor daughters love getting the dregs of my mascara etc, especially when it's a month to payday!

I've seen them for sale, mainly very lightly used items. I've sold brand new cosmetics and toiletries, for £1.00 each.

My best seller at car boot sales is my goodie box of make up and toiletries. I start at £1 an item, reducing the price as the day goes on. All kinds of people have a look thru the items.

I saw someone selling some used toothbrushes on a market once...
    The money, Dave...
  • I don't have a problem with buying slightly-used bottles of nail varnish, though I wouldn't fancy using a stranger's lipstick. Nearly-full nail varnish sells for about 5-10p per bottle at boot sales near me, sometimes even 20p for really posh stuff.

You might capture a fetish market on eBay with those, but don't try it at a car boot sale or you'll scare the customers away! :rotfl:

All depends on the age of the makeup. There was an article recently about women hanging onto old out of date make-up.

Apparently there is a risk in using used or old make up, as bacteria builds up in the product. So a high risk of damaging eye sight, especially with mascara

  • Mascara goes all gloopy and unusable when it's old anyway. There might be a theoretical "high" risk if people were to attempt to use it like that, but it's a bit like saying there's a high risk of food poisoning if you eat certain foods months or years past their best before date: you just wouldn't, so the risk in the real world is negligible, and using products just a little past their BB date is unlikely to cause harm.

I'm sure people will buy anything at the right price at a car boot but personally the idea of secnd hand make up makes me shudder.

Hi, i recently took a load of toiletries along with me to our last car boot sale, not expecting anyone to be interested. But i was wrong! I had used a small amount of each bottle of shampoo/face creams etc but people snapped them up. I had a small plastic makeup bag and has put odd bits and pieces in it-mainly bobbles, small un used travel brush, mirror etc and i was amazed at how people become really interested by things like that! so i was fairly pleased with my sales that day!

I wouldnt sell used lipsticks or any make up that is very old though-as it can be yukky as they get bacteria in them and could cause infections/irritations etc.
