BT overcharging

Options
I have got BT broadband, initially it was a good price and worked well. Then I noticed the bill had gone up to £41 and thought this was an awful lot to be paying so I phoned them up and they said it was part of the deal that my bill would go up after a few months and that I signed the deal so nothing I could do, if I did sign then it was part of the small print as I never would have agreed to such a price. I told them I could not pay that and I wanted to cancel to which they told me I would be charged £250 if I did that and they said there were no more options. I gave up as I thought at least its good Internet and I do use it a lot but now its awful and im really not happy at paying 41 a month for internet that doesnt do what I want it to. Its very slow evenings and weekends and take a long time for anything to load and it wont play iplayer or netflix. Does anyone know how I either get out of this ridiculous contract or get them to lower the price? I just am so annoyed im paying all that money for something that doesn't work. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Did you actually check the T&C's before signing up? Most BT broadband tariffs (in common with many providers) have a 'headline' introductory lower rate, and then the price rises for the rest of the contract. (usually after 6 months) It's not exactly hidden in the small print. If you say what package you are on, then someone can advise f the charge is correct.
You aren't paying £41 for internet, that includes your line rental and call package. BT have always been one of the most expensive providers around.
You agreed a minimum term contract. You are bound by that and if you want to leave early you must pay the contractual ETC.
If the line speed was OK but has got slower, then you need to report it and give BT a chance to fix it, assuming that the fault is not on your own equipment or extensions.

Read the T&Cs for your service. If BT is not complying you have grounds for complaint. You should have been given a download speed range on joining BT, is your speed within this range. If not you have grounds for complaint. If BT is failing to meet the T&Cs you should be able to end your contract penalty free,. but be prepared to take them through the complaints procedure.to the Ombudsman.

Could there be a wifi problem with your computer? You could check this by borrowing another.
