Coffee Conundrum?

I dont actually like coffee but once a month I treat myself to either a cappucino or one of the flavoured lattes and I adore them- i guess its because its not the strong coffee which I hate. I dont even drink nescafe/.
At the price they are I cant justify buying them but noticed that Whittards do smallish bottles of syrup for flavouring coffee but wanted an idea as to how to go about it. I can always get some coffee for a cafetiere thigy i have in the cupboard somewhere. would I just heat some milk up and do half and half? no idea how to get it all frothy but guess I weill have to do without that bit. any odeas please???0 -
Ohhhhhh, I'm the exactly the same as you and needed to cut back as it was costing me a small fortune. I do this...
Heat up a small pan of skimmed milk (while showering, I have a ritual!) and pop the kettle on. Warm up my plunger thingy (i'll google a pick once I've wrote this) Kettle boiled and pop some ground coffee in plunger thing and let it stew (the longer you leave it then the stronger it gets) Once milk is hot enough then I pour into cup and add coffee. I know this sounds a big garble but hope its of use.
I cant notice a difference between this and Costa! But then I only ever got skinny lattes.

I use one of these in the picture and well worth the money. Oh and another tip. Once you have opened your ground coffee then store in an airtight container and either in the fridge or freezer to keep it as fresh as possible.

Heat the milk up gently so it doesn't burn. Ive got a microwave saucepan that cost all of 25p and that does a really good job. I would start at 2/3 coffee and 1/3 milk, if you want to froth there are loads of nifty hand devices available but what's the point - they just fill your tummy with gas
.
If you don't like coffee you might like "Camp" (chicory). Or why not try Green & Blacks / Twinings hot chocolate with skimmed milk for a comforting treat?Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

To make it frothy (and also to avoid a skin on the top) I use one of these too.

And just swish it in the pan while heating the milk.
This all sounds like a lot of hard work but it takes me just minutes and saves me LOADS every week!"The journey of 1000 miles commenced with a single step"0 -
Aldi have a really fab coffee machine...its well under £40. We have espresso/capuccinos etc etc. I flavour the capuccino with cake flavourings - vanilla and almond. I know you may think its an expense but maybe you would get more use if you bought one??0

Hi Mrs Baggins,
I wouldn't bother with the syrups. To make latte you just need espresso coffee, warmed milk, sugar to taste
and frothy milk to top or whipped cream if you're feeling decadent. The last two are optional.
I have a small stove top espresso maker that I bought from Wittards and I warm milk in the microwave. Just pour one part espresso into the glass (I use irish coffee glasses) but a mug would do just as well. Then top with two parts milk. Stir in sugar if you like it, then top with whipped cream or frothed milk.
There's an earlier therad that may help:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

wow!! thank you everyone. I feel a latte later as a new years gift to myself!! I am just so easily pleased!!!
Is an espresso just a stronger version of a cafetiere type of cofee?
Just noticed as well that Ikea have the frothy maker things at 97P so may get son to go there as he lives near one. Happy new year everyone!!0
