. The result isn't quite the same as from a pumped espresso machine (the sort you get in Starbucks et al) but I guess it's similar.
Personally I usually drink strongish drip brew coffee at home since it's about the least hassle to clean up afterwards...
Nope, sorry student. Hope you don't think I'm picking on you, but I am such a coffee fanatic I have 5 ways of making coffee at home
Stove top
Pump style Espresso/capuccino machine
filter
cafetiere
and instant
Now, I get a fair few visitors to my house and with very few exceptions, the favourite is always the stove top. It tastes sort of "authentic" if you know what I mean.
Oh, and those exceptions are the people who actually prefer instant!A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
All you need is a stove top espresso maker. I've been using one for years and, if I say so myself, I make wonderful coffee
So, back to the lattee, just make espresso and add hot milk.
Does anyone have a link to one of these online please, I have no idea what exactly it is but I'm a bit of a coffee fiend - would be good to have a look at one, but my searches are coming up with huge coffee makers! The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. I got one last week as a back up from Lidl (or was it Aldi) for around three quid. That's about the same price as the extra seals.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

ok this is how i do it and everyone comments on how good it is .. make your coffee as per normal then heat some milk in the microwave when the milk is warm (not boiling) tip it into an empty milk carton (2L one preferably) and put the lid on.. wrap the carton in a tea towel (cos its hot) and shake like billy o
u will get a nice froth on the top .. be careful when u open the carton cos it will sorta pop... pour the frothed milk ontop the coffee and voila a lovely looking latte/cappucino

Thanks for that, just went out and dug around in the mess which is my local TK Maxx, I knew I'd seen those somewhere - I now have a lovely stovepot expresso maker and two expresso cups and saucers for £4. Not bad at all!
Just need to buy the correct coffee now!The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. I generally like my coffee creamy, but we never keep whole milk in the flat, so I use a very small SodaStream bottle (cap fits on really tightly) to mix up some dried milk with water. I shake it and it gets really foamy and is creamier than using semi-skimmed.
It's not as good as the real deal, but it's pretty easy to make and clean up after. The same can't be said for using a capuccino machine!
The best thing is that you can keep some pre-mixed milk in the refrigerator and just give it a shake when you need it. As someone said above, dried milk doesn't have additives in it, but once mixed you can keep it cold for roughly a week without it going off.0 -
I reverted to the good old expresso stove top machine after giving up on a Classic Gaggia - the cups were too small! Now I use the expresso thing and bought, for £3.00, a battery operated whisky thing which works wonders on hot milk. Just froth it up and add to coffee and it's as authentic as you can get.0
