However
1) I dont particularly like potatoes so convince me that they are not as bad as I remember
2) there is only me to feed so if the recipes are large can they be frozen/ halved?
anyone up for the challenge?
In my veg box I received 6 baking potatoes and approx 9 new potatoes (I think thats what they are :rotfl: )
Thankyou

Chips!
Need I say more? What could anyone possibly have against chips?
We do a sort of Dauphinoise thing (I think!) with cream and onions.. the potatoes are so thinly sliced they are barely there.
Last night I boiled some new potatoes, sliced them and then added them to a load of fried up onions and peppers. Then I added eggs and made a sort of tortilla thing. Again, the potatoes were quite hidden.
HTH

Sounds like you need some different textures then. Do you like chips? Home made wedge shaped ones, baked in the oven with the skins still on, are nice. What about potato rosti? (grated potato, seasoned with salt & pepper, shaped into 'cakes' and either baked in a hot oven or fried).Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Chips I can eat but they have to be smothered in tommy K or bbq sauce to try and disguise the mashed spud like texture in the middle
Gosh Im so fussy I'm probably worse than a kid
Like the sound of rosti as it doesnt sound too mashed spud in the middle texture
quite like the sound of both of yours too Curv

Oooh you've just reminded me - layers of sliced potato, onion and cheese, bung in oven for 50 mins or so - sorted
(everything turns into a soft, cheesy caramalised mess :P)
My OH hates onions but he's away at the moment so I shall make it for Sat night - I might buy some nice dessert too :P
Sorry I can't help in your quest to like potatoes but I'm really looking forward to saturday now

YBNBYBNB.... we do this too... and you can hide pieces of mozzarella here and there as little surprises. I LOVE this dish and we haven't had it for AGES. Can feel an amendment to the menu planner coming on. Or is amending The Plan classed as a Bad Thing? My OH hates onions ...
Have you tried grating them? Lots of people don't like the texture but grating them means you just get a very, very mellow onion flavour without the problem of bits of 'slimy' onion (as my friend refers to them  )

I'm not the biggest potato fan either unless they come in the form of chips. As I love chips.:o
I'm a rice girl personally, egg fried rice, special fried rice, paella, risotto, my mums gorgeous rice yum yum. Anyway I digress.
I do like spanish omelette, think that is because there is enough other stuff going on apart from just potato ie, there is usually lots of onion which I love and of course eggs. There are loads of recipes around and of course once cooked it can be frozen in portions.

Roast potatoes are also very good, I bought some potatoes a while ago as they were going cheap and made them into roasties and they came out gorgeous. I parboiled the potatoes for about 10 mins then I placed them in a colander and shook them up to rough the surface of them a bit. Meanwhile I put some foil on a baking tray with deep sides and poured a bit of sunflower oil onto the foil and put a knob of butter on it too. I spread the oil and butter onto the foil evenly and placed the tray in the oven. When the potatoes have been parboiled and shaken up then take the tray out of the oven making sure that the fat combination is hot then place the potatoes into the foil and cover the potatoes in the hot fat. Then I would spinkle some salt pepper and parsley (or thyme) onto the potatoes. Gives it a gorgeous flavour. Potatoes are yummy that way.
I don't mind them as mash though I rarely make mash (then again I don't do much cooking really) but my favourite potatoes have to be roast potatoes and chips.
Good luck with it, I will keep an eye out for this thread!0 -

He claims that they taste nasty (how this can be I have no idea) but I might try grating them into pasta bolognese though (with his consent of course
) - thanks for the idea
