At the moment it's a bit of a fuss about nothing: in 1995/6 the Government shut down for about 6-7 months IIRC and the sky didn't fall in.

What did the State employees do during this time?

Says the last shutdown lasted 3 weeks on the BBC?

The sky didn't fall in because it's held up by sky hooks of course.

But I read that some state workers are to be told not to attend work and will not be paid during this time.

For them I imagine it will be an issue.

And all because the people who are supposed to be the best of the best of the best of the best of the best, are actually quite !!!!!! when it comes down to it.:)

In the absence of various biased left wing political programmes and a few episodes of Eastenders, 90% of the nation will start to become free and creative thinkers.

3 weeks is not enough to repair the damage though, so I vote it's taken off air for good.

It went downhill anyway when they quit Morecambe and Wise and the Paul Daniels Magic show.

Anyone else starting to think Obama is making a mistake by going a bit overboard with the blame game and political point gaining?

Would be a shame, as he was handed a blinder anyway. But it now appears even his supporters are turning on him and accusing him of wasting taxpayer money to milk the situation.

The republicans seems extremely quiet on the issue, while Obama is extremely vocal in telling everyone and writing to millions to explain just how underhanded the republicans are.

We've seen what they are willing to do....by going to these lengths at such expense, is he not in danger of going a little too far?

It's now been revealed on the BBC that a meeting with the republicans was shunned in order that Obama made his speech. Seems quite damaging for Obama to be telling the US that the republicans are using them as punchbags, but shunning meetings in order to adress the nation.

I dunno. Lots of he said and she said, but it does seem like more attention is being paid to milking it, than resolving it. I was suggesting at work it's terrible that governments could work this way and we were pretty much all blaming the republicans from out armchairs as it were. But as time moves on, it appears it may not be all one way traffic here.

Useless. Dangerous. Clowns. No, I'm not reciting the PIM Investment Team biographies, but rather giving our cutting edge view on the fools who control the US economy in Washington.

There will no doubt still be enough "money" left to bomb and torture innocent people around the world.

I wouldn't disagree. BBC has become extremely poor value for money. It should be shut down for ever and save us all £145.50 a year. I used to like it because there were no adverts. But now they spend more time advertising 'what's coming up' or 'what's on BBC2 next' or 'A new series of.... starting next month....'

The only thing I'd ask is that Have I got News for You gets bought by ITV or Channel 4.

And I can promise something else. If that ghastly Fiona "look at me. I went to Oxford" Bruce were to move to other channels, I'd throw all my televisions into landfill. She should have been sacked years ago when BBC quite rightly got rid of all the old female presenters.

Oh... forgot... I'd save Hacker T Dog. He should move from children's to adult entertainment and go to Dave/Gold or somewhere. He's priceless.

No need. Cameron's agreed to do it for them.

It could be worse we could have Honey BooBoo child - I am surprised it hasn't been brought to back out the Jeremy Kyle spots.
