Ending contract early

How easy is it to negotiate an early release from a contract? I am approximately half way through.

Is it possible to maybe pay a fee and cancel?

  • Just do a search on here.
They wwill ask you to pay them what you owe on the contract

Yes, any network will allow you to terminate early.
The fee will be your remaining monthly payments without vat

So the saving is minimal-you'll pay 80% of the cost you would have paid anyway for 9m/12m of no service.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • The real trick is not to get involved with silly 24 month contracts in the first place. Yes, get into debt for a house or even a car but a mobile phone??

I'd say the typical discount is 17% (1/6), not 20%, but many networks don't give any discount at all.

which is exactly why its not a good idea to tie into long contracts. Which is the same with most loans and debts

And, equally unfortunately, the only circumstances that get you out of a contract without paying the full ETC, are death or bankruptcy.

I canceled my 24m contract early with just over 3 months to go. I worked out cost effective since
    a) My data usage was at the point where I was paying an additional £10/month to top up my original contract amount
    b) The deal I had been on was 21month discounted, then more expensive in last 3 months.

I think I got charged remaining days - 20% vat - 3% on voda. Of course you also get refunded any advance payments made for rental

By switching to 3's 1-plan I saved money over this 3 months period, even including the £18/month -- so it can work out effective! but not in most cases.

I had to move to get working data............
