If you don't really know the kids then I would stick a few quid in a card each for them. This is what I did when my DD went to a party for twin boys in her class, figuring that all kids like going out buying something for themselves after their birthdays.
    :heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:
  • Hi Jane....I've got twins but boy/girl so no real problems there but I generally stick to the same pressies when mine are invited to parties.
Boys get a £5 voucher for Woolies and Girls get a £5 voucher for either Claires or Woolies.....keep it simple and if someone else has got them the same it doesn't cause any embarassment.

I have twin girls of 4½ and I would definitely avoid giving a joint present if possible. In my experience this is fine for larger items bought by family (grandparents bought mine a seesaw one year), but not so good if given by friends at a birthday party. I'd probably go for similar presents - like two different books or T-shirts, for example.

As a twin myself, I would say get something different. Even if you get similar things, but just a slight variation I would say that's still better than getting the exact same thing in a different colour. One of the things my sister and I used to hate was when we would open our presents in a different order, and find that we already knew what we'd got because we'd seen the other person open theirs first! Also, especially as young children, we used to play together a lot so it seemed pointless having 2 the same of everything.

So basically, there's no difinitive answer - give the mum a ring and just ask what they would prefer (same/different present).

My friend has twin girls and i always buy them clothes but in different colours.
I would get them vouchers though, saves the hassle!

Thanks everyone - I think alot of you are thinking along the same lines as an idea I had - something like power rangers or whatever but in different colours. I don't know the mother at all (they're just schoolfriends of DD and as they're in the nursery they haven't really got to know each other properly yet) to ask so I'll just do something like that. Worse than that is the fact I HATE buying for boys as I never know what to get. I'm dreading when DS gets a bit older and I have to start buying proper boys toys - I think I'll leave it to DH!!!

Oh and I was going to get them separate cards as I was quite sure it must be annoying to have one between you!

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

i'm a girl/boy twin and we always had diff gifts as kids however i have a younger sister and we always used to get the same presants off people at christmas and it really annoyed me! my granny used to knit us the same jumper every year just in diff sizes.
i'd get them a book each, our local bookdepot does a pack of 6 childrens books for £5 then you can split the pack in half and you don't have to spend a fortune.
