I get whole chickens from Aldi. Chicken breasts from Lidl in the frozen section are £3.99 for a bag of about 10 or so. They have a small bone in, which I think keeps them moist and I use them for everything I would use fresh chicken breasts for, I reckon they are fab and my lot are quite fussy. Lidl fresh chicken thighs are good too.

I found the best quality cheap chickens were from Aldis and Lidl. Lidl does a frozen medium chicken for £1.59. I havent bought one for ages but it tasted like chicken and provided a roast dinner and a curry for the 3 of us with abit of stretching:D
It may be worth looking into a local butchers! I often get great deals and the butcher is fab. A few weeks back I bought 2 fresh chickens (will stretch to 4-5 meals), 2lbs stewing lamb (which I divided into 3 bags for stews), 20 fresh lamb double chops (enough for 6 meals), 1lb bacon (sarnies:o ), 10 large chicken breasts (use 2 for the 3 of us-so 5 meals), 2lbs minced lamb (divided into 4 bags for shepherds pies/chilli etc) and 12 large pork chops (enough for 4 meals)...all for £30.00:D ..he also threw in some Lambs liver to try (enough for OH & I) and 6 HM sausgaes (made a toad in the hole with them;) ).....so £30 for around 30 meals.

Ive never bought a chicken since i moved out and started cooking.
If there is only me, how many Meals could I make out of 1 Chicken.
Depends on how big it is but I would have thought as a minimum each breast and each leg would give you a meal and the rest will make as much soup as you want.0 -

As for the Lidl fresh chicken my advice is buy the medium not the large as the medium is something like 30p cheaper per KG. (general shopping tip: always check prices per weight when compairing items of food or drink).
It allso goes very well with their curry sauces....Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.0 -

I'll try a whole chicken but if I do get squeamishthen the chicken breasts seem like a good alternative, especially as I'll still have some bones for making soup with
You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

A new Aldi has opened up near us, and I know I have turned into a total cheapskate cos I walk round saying "that's not as cheap as Tesco!" for some stuff.
However, saw fresh chickens yesterday for £2.03 which is cheaper than Tesco.
Might pop down later and get one for Sunday lunch, and maybe after payday (!) try one in the slowcooker. OH has pulled a face at the idea of SC chicken but might as well try it once!0 -
