I think car designers should be made to do these, once, simple tasks, including oil and filter changes, before their design is accepted.

They spend millions designing cars to be difficult to work on for the home mechanic, cant see this ever happening :(

They should be made accountable for their designs:

Type approval legislation for new cars: ECE R48 — Installation of lighting and light-signalling devices

    5.23
Lamps shall be fitted in a vehicle in such a way that the light source can be correctly replaced according to the instructions of the vehicle manufacturer without the use of special tools, other than those provided with the vehicle by the manufacturer. The vehicle manufacturer shall provide with the vehicle a detailed description of the procedure for replacement.

How do the car manufacturers get away with this?

    Really?

A bunch of inexperienced and under qualified 17yr olds taking my car apart? No thanks........

Well, I consider myself a practical person, but after spending an hour under the arch of my Zafira failing miserably to get the bulb back in place, I gave up.

The guy at Halfords took about two minutes flat to do the job. He said he changed several Vauxhall bulbs a week and he knew exactly how to place and twist the bulb in place.

With hindsight, I should have just stayed in bed for another hour and paid the £6.95 without bothering to try myself:(

They must have improved access then compared to the Mk2 Yaris! It's just do-able but very tight if components aren't removed first.:D

I actually don't know if it's any different on the latest petrol/diesel Yarisisusses. There's a few subtle differences under the bonnet where the hybrid is concerned :rotfl:and it could well be that as a result there's more room to access the bulbs.

Still, I'm pleased that most of my bulbs are a no-brainer 30 seconds job to change (the only ones that would be a PITA to access are the front fogs, but given that I've never had to change these even on cars I kept for 10 years+ I'm not particularly concerned :p )

Well I always use my local Halfords for bulb changes, they are very good and seem to know what they are doing. Although I did feel a bit of wimp when a young lady changed my lamps last time.
    That's ok.

As long as you didn't also feel the young lady as she did the work.
