They couldn't have made it any harder on the Jazz. The only way I can see of doing it is jacking up the car, taking the wheel off and removing the plastic arch liner. Certainy can't get my hand on it from under the bonnet. Any better ideas?

  • At least on my MG ZT they fit a removable 'flap' in the wheel arch liner for this purpose - nothing similar on yours? :)

    Still a massive pain though!

The correct way is via the inner wing, as you state.

The lining does not need to be removed: it should bend out of the way with only a single clip removed.

(At least you don't need to remove the bumper or the headlight itself...)

I must admit I was expecting there to be an inspection hatch as on Freelanders, MGs and BMWs etc.

No access from the engine bay is quite common these days.

Changing a headlight bulb on a modern car? Don't even get me started.

Apart from stretching the MPG results, car manufacturers these days are blatantly ignoring the ECE headlamp rules - on some cars it's a front bumper off exercise.

On my 2012 Yaris Hybrid: open bonnet, remove cover, turn bulb base, release spring, remove bulb :D (and enough space in the right places for access)
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail
  • As I couldn't do it myself and had no one to asked I paid Halford £18 for the two headlights and to fit one of them to a Citroen Picasso. They fitted it in 3 minutes. Not a bad hourly rate.

We walked past Halfords yesterday and noticed 2 of their lads working on a car which seemed to have half the front end off and they were trying to change a bulb. Definitely worth paying their usually extortionate fees in that case.

    Really?

A bunch of inexperienced and under qualified 17yr olds taking my car apart? No thanks........

    I agree with Strider above.

I wouldn't let Halfords staff wash my car, let alone do anything mechanical or electrical to it.

The punch line to your story is probably:

Car owner comes back after having a coffee in a local cafe and asks:

"Have your guys fitted my new brake light bulb yet?" :D

I agree - I would never allow any Halfrauds' employee/yoof to touch my car.

As for washing it - I have visions of 'bucket and spade' rather than 'bucket and sponge'. ;)
