    Hi chaps...

Still not resolved this problem satisfactorily...

Not sure if the lintel is causing the effect now - the builder will be burning off the paint and/or painting over with heat resistant paint.. I really should wait till that's done before exploring further but I'm going crazy here I need to use the stove and can't assure myself it's that...

Been round a few mates with stoves and asked - theirs don't smell of anything basically. Would you say that's normally true??

I can smell it from the heat rising, but it only stinks out the room when the stove is very hot. I bought a stovax thermometer and am keeping it within the recommended range. At mid or lower temperatures it's only apparent at close range, but there's a residual odour when it's cold too. I find it hard to describe the smell, it's a bit sicky...

Could it be the brickwork at all ?? These are reclaimed bricks. Can't be the chimney as I had open fires blazing in there previously.

I've also switched fuel as I had some kiln dried pine which has quite an acrid smell. It's this stuff :

Again, I'm not sure I should be smelling anything... but is it possible to have a bad supply of wood that stinks up the place and leaves a bad odour on things???

Really pulling my hair out here..

If anybody can comment would appreciate...

By the way this stove - a chinese "Kresnik" import - I've only found info on it via ebay sales and this place : http://www.toolbox.co.uk/kresnik-cast-iron-multifuel-16970-401468

Do they have to supply a data safety sheet for the paint and CE approval if requested ??

    A weird one !

Personally I hate the Chinese imported things, more from a maintenance point of view and the generic look than anything ! anyhow....one thing to try the day after you next use it - block the flue up from the inside so there is no draught - I would then light a smoke pellet and put that inside the stove to see where if anywhere it leaks from, it could be that the casing is warped and ill fitting causing spillage, if theres no smoke then all good on that front.

Be prepaired to be smoked out though after the pellet has finished and you open the door to remove what ever you use to block the flue up with.

Very unlikely to be the fuel you are using that is smelling unless you keep it stacked by the side of the fire.

I have had sealer around my old stove smell especially when the stove got hot, it used to stink to high heaven so I ripped that out and resealed with a product called "Inglenook fire cement" far better than normal fire cement I will add. Give it a try - Wilko sell it if there is one near you or you can get it on line for a few quid.
