BT Broadband - Moving Home

Both my partner and I run businesses from home and need a fully reliable broadband service at all times. We have been with BT for the past 3 years as they have mostly achieved this! (Don't dare risk carphone warehouse drama). However, we are moving house next week and have been told it will take up to 10 working days to move our service
Is this really right? Can we do anything else, or is anyone else better at the big swap? HELP! Can't risk p-ing off our customers with lack of internet support for nearly 2 weeks.

[not sure if its 10 days for broadband, or for the phone - but i'd image its broadband]
how about using dial-up.... at least that way you can email them....0 -
Have just signed up with Virgin media - BT wanted over £100 to re-connect to them, plus they couldn't get all this done and the broadband on until July 4th (we move in on June 22nd). Couldn't even get the phone in until 29th. But for £25 Virgin will have everything up and running and port our old telephone number on the day we move in. I remember dealing with NTL 4 years ago was like pulling teeth with pliers, but hopefully they will be better now. If even part of it comes together it will be way better than BT who just lost (GAVE AWAY) themselves a loyal customer. The only problem now is that I have to go back to BT and extract myself from a 12 month contract I supposedly signed up for over the phone three weeks ago (I didn't, especially as I knew we were moving). Need a beer first, I think!0

Yeah it'll take that time, as they have to install the ADSL equipment & PSTN phone line at the new address0
