So nice to see so many of us coming back to OldStyle.

Hope you enjoy your holiday Tru, we'll have to have a catch up soon.

Sorry to hear about your mum Cariad, funnily enough it was my mum's recent death that gave me the kick to come back here.

I'm having a computer tidy up day today.

    Afternoon all,

Wow a really busy day with dd and DGS and two othe boys and respective gf for lunch.
Bit annoyed today, youngest boy went to a gig and has lost or had his mobile stolen. I can't believe that people would just take something that belongs to someone else, makes me so mad I could spit grrr:mad:
DD has asked if she can come home for a while, she currently rents with her little boy but just can't get anywhere as she is trying to save a deposit to buy. She works so hard. She is hoping to be with us for12 months reduce her outgoings and save like mad so she is in a position to buy.
We don't mind at all, I'm glad to help, we have two empty bedrooms so it's no hardship at all and I get to spend lots of lovely time with DGS Oscar.
Anyway I'm shattered after cooking a chicken dinner 40 biscuits and a fruit cake, going to have a rest.
    Bye for now x

  • Hi all -

A really OS day today - I was planning to do the cleaning (long overdue...) but a friend texted first thing - he'd been away for the weekend to visit his dad, would he call in on his way home? He arrived a couple of hours later, just as I was finishing the cleaning, then he decided (bless him) to cut the grass, and went on with a good tidy up of the garden while I got the bread in the oven, and got together a scratch lunch.

Over here the shops don't open until lunchtime so it was a storecupboard gnocchi putanesca. He likes Italian food, so it went down well, especially when followed by home-made lemon drizzle cake.

Turned out that he'd been doing some DIY for his dad, so he had his tools in the car, he refitted a couple of wobbly towel rails before heading for home. And I've been shamed into tidying up the front garden!
  • Welcome Cariad and savingspree

Happy retirement NAR. I am glad that you had a good time at the party.

Have spent the morning making blackberry and apple jam we got 8lb on our forage yesterday, we also got quite a few beech nuts so they are soaking at the moment, I will roast them later.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Lots of love to those who need xxx

I need to read this thread with a note pad besides me so I can note what people say. I feel rude that I do t reply individually but my memory is awful!

    Have pottered about today.

Didn't get up till near 0930. I was just dozing, I was aware I needed to get up! Went to Asda so am stocked up for the week.

Have sorted the conservatory today. It doubles up as a playroom for my youngest.

Dh & ds1 are in London for the American Football. So me, dd & ds2 had pizza for tea. Ds2 is currently in the bath so I'm sat on the floor in the doorway.

I will have a shower in a bit & get ds2 to bed before Downton Abbey starts.

I do like Cornwall but the last few times we went it took ages to get there & rained the entire time. So we haven't been back!

I want I make a nice lemon cake on tues to eat on Wednesday. Anyone got a good recipe that doesn't have to be eaten straight away? Thank you

    Love, hugs & spoons

    xxx

The lemon curd recipe keeps well.
    Ingredients

    100g margarine
    75g caster sugar
    2 eggs
    175g self-raising flour
    1 jar lemon curd(smartprice/value is fine )
    1 level teaspoon baking powder

    Method

    1. Pre heat the oven to 200 degrees centigrade. Grease a 2lb loaf tin

    2. Place all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix together for about 5 minutes

    3. Pour the cake mixture into the prepared tin level the top.

    4. Bake for approximately 40 minutes until browned.

    Hi all,

Just had a quick read through hugs to those that need them x

Am SO tired at the moment, work is carp and i,m getting an adverage of 4 hours sleep a night fretting.... Had a shock the other day, we have nearly 30 peeps off sick with stress - not good....:o i,m fighting with myself not to join them:(

Anyhooo - have had a quiet weekend, Ald! Opened round the corner from us last Thursday, I popped in Sat afternoon, mistake - it was heaving... Was impressed with the range and the prices though, bought super 6, and a bottle of red, well, it fell in my basket :p

Today, used up some garden fruit and veg to make HSW glutney, corgettes, apples, onions etc all HG - said to use red wine vinagar and light brown sugar, didn,t have either, so used 23p ordinary vinagar and white sugar, tastes okay, needs to mature yet though.

Also made Mrs LW,s cherry and coconut sponge, was lush, though the cherries sank :)

Minced some LO lamb with onions and spices for kebabs tomorrow night, in wraps with salad. Did this whilst making toad in the hole for tonight, used Mr L,s HP sausages, served Ald,s 69p tatties and HG veg - tasty and cheap - Banzinga!!!!!

About a month ago I bought a combi microwave from Mr S, was HP, very impressed with it - I,ve only used my HUGE 110 lts single oven since i,ve had it - hopefully it will show on the lecci bills.

On the downside, due to weather and school/workwear had to use the TD today, only the once, but narked me to use it

Have a fab evening all x
