Android upgrade on memory card?
My wife recently bought a new HTC Sensation XE via eBay. Soon after setting it up, a message appeared advising that an upgrade was available, from GB to ICS.
However, when I attempted to do this it said that there was no memory card available, which I thought was strange as I would have assumed that the upgrade would have been downloaded/installed onto the phone itself. We inserted a 2GB memory card from an old phone and the upgrade downloaded and installed ok.
We've now received a 16GB card from the seller and want to use it rather than the paltry 2GB one. So my question is, what will happen when I remove the 2GB card and substitute it with the 16GB one? Will the phone revert to Gingerbread and simply advise us again that an upgrade is available? Or will this screw-up the phone?
I didn't check at the time if the upgrade had actually gone onto the memory card, and can't do so at the moment as I'm currently away from home. So advice would be appreciated.

No, the phone won't go back to GB, you probably just needed the space for the download..which is now installed.0

it would have just downloaded a zip file with the upgrade and the phone flashes this.
just swapping the memory cards will be fine0 -
I hope the upgrade was from GB to JB Jelly bean as ICS is a downgrade .
Once flashed and booted the upgrade is embedded in the phone .0 -
No it was Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich, which is the latest version available for the Sensation. Jelly Bean Is the latest currently available version until KitKat comes out so certainly not a downgrade.0

I hate ICS and JB. Some good points and some nice features in them. But basic things have vanished.
Copy and paste text in some apps and games no longer works in ICS and JB. Even worse in JB it seems.
Why have they stopped apps installing to the memory cards? Or being transferred to the memory card?
Looking at the new phone, Reading reviews on some out of 16GB of storage there is about 5GB free out of the box. And you cannot install apps to the memory card?
Sounds like a backwards step to me.
Installing apps to external storage was a big step forward.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I don't think you could ever install an app to a memory card. The option to move an app to a memory card has always been dependant on whether the app itself allows it, not the operating system.
Correct - however Samsung did something when they introduced their Galaxy phones (certainly the S3 - not sure about the S2) - that for some reason prevents any apps being installed/transferred on/to the memory card.
This was supposed to be being allowed again with the next release of the OS - whenever that might be.0 -
