I think the crux is the MP2/MP4* angle; the TVs have to be RTE compatable: ours are dual MP2/MP4 whih is how they were selected.
*Or possibly MPEG2/MPEG4 - I'm a technophobe. Best option is let an adolescent pick the TVs and get a 'high gain' ( ? ) aeriel. Worked for us.0 -
Freeview uses MPEG2 - this is a CoDec (COmpress/DECompress - broadcaster encodes, sends, we receive, decode). It's the codec that MP3 audio files, and DAB radio uses too.
Freeview HD, and Soarview, use the MPEG4 Codec which is more efficient.
That's why you need a Freeview HD receiver, to get the MPEG4 RTE SD channels.0 -
One other point to note...
Freeview is DVB-T & MPEG2
Saorview is DVB-T & MPEG4
Freeview HD is DVB-T2 & MPEG4
Any DVB-T2 device should also work with the older DVB-T standard.
So a Freeview HD receiver should work with Saorview, but a Saorview box may not work with Freeview HD!
Don't even get me started about MHEG5 text. :cool:0
