SAORSAT in NI

So in summing up:
You can probably get Saorsat in Northern Ireland
(chances get better as you get closer to the border), but- you'll definitely need another different lnb
- probably need another fixed dish because it's on a different satellite.

Yes, if you live in NI you will most likely get SaorSat - see here
http://www.astra2.org/saorsat.html
Living on the border will mean you will get away with a 44cm* dish as the spot beam is focussed on the centre of Ireland, living on the North Coast may require a 70cm* dish - as shown in the link above. *Theoretically of course!attritioner wrote: »Also, Saorsat (Ka-Sat) uses ultra tight spot-beams and reception away from Ireland is unlikely. Using a larger dish reception is possible in other parts of the UK with a slight overspill i.e. parts of Wales, etc.I'm in Northern Ireland. That's why the thread is located in the Northern Ireland forum. :wall:
Yes, thats why I'm reading it! I live in NI too :wall: I'm not sure what gave you the impression otherwise?
I can tell you unless you have a physical object obstructing your view of 9E/A in the sky, with the correct dish and lnb you will get SaorSat in all parts of Ireland including NI. If you live in other parts of the UK (as many other MSEers reading these forums do) you still may get SaorSat.0 -
Re splitting the signal.
I assume you have an aerial either on the roof or in the roofspace.
As close as you can reasonably get to the aerial, fit a loftbox, search for loftbox on google. I tried to post a link but it won't let me !
This will amplify the incoming signal and split it to 4 or 8 cables, depending on the model.
I have used one in my roofspace for 10 years with no problem.
The Saorview signal is pretty strong now and I can pick up all channels with an indoor tv aerial facing south. The same aerial barely picks up the NI mux from Blackmountain!0 -
Sounds like Soarsat's a lot of hassle in NI - and considering it doesn't have TV3, which is also missing from Freeview (is that right), then it would seem that NI users should stick with Freeview if they can get it.0

TV3 is missing from Freeview but if you're lucky enough to receive Saorview through your Freeview set top box (which we are) then you get TV3 as well.0

We get TV3 (along with the other RTE channels) on all 3 integrated freeview TVs, the one with a set top box doesn't get any RTE channels!:undecided0 -

Sounds like your TV's are picking up Saorview but your set top box isn't. Is the set top box HD capable? I ask because RTE only broadcast to NI in HD and that might be your answer.0 -
because RTE only broadcast to NI in HD
its a HD receiver, but RTE not in High Definition quality
all so confusing??0 -

Yes. Very much so. All those years of accumulated knowledge are out the window and we've got to learn it all again.0
