.doc to .pdf

I don't have Word but can read Word documents by using LibreOffice. [The free MS Word Reader doesn't seem to be completely compatible with some .doc files].

However, I'm trying to persuade a club I belong to to send their newsletters as pdf files rather than .doc files which everybody would then be able to read instantly. I would have thought that pdf is by far the preferred format for this kind of communication.

Please can one of the millions out there with experience of Word let me know if it possible to create pdf files directly from the various versions of Word - as, of course, it is with LibreOffice text files.

This would strengthen my argument!

Thanks!

Not that I know of. Is the requirement to use Word absolutely set in stone?

Nitro Reader can turn Office documents into PDFs and it's free.

No Word cannot directly do PDF.

There are a number of free PDF printers. I like CutePDF which is free. You simply print to it rather than your normal printer.

I'm running Office 2013 and in that version, Word certainly has a Save As option to save directly in .pdf format. Not sure about earlier versions though.

Edit: Just checked Office 2007 on an older laptop and that has the same facility.

If you sent them out as .rtf rather than .doc, everyone with any kind of word processing software would be able to read them anyway.
As PDF's they will not be editable.

Thanks for those very prompt replies. I know there are other ways of creating pdfs - I use one myself - but I thought if Word had a 'save as' pdf there would be no excuse not to use it!

The strange thing is that some attachments the club emails are pdfs. I suppose different people are creating the documents. I don't imagine the club has Office 2013 although it would be interesting to find out.

    Thanks again!

Does that depend on the version?

As I edited above, my 2007 version of Office Word has the Save As .pdf facility too, so it has been available for several years. Can't comment on earlier versions though.

Hmm you're right. I use Word 2007 at work every day but never noticed that before :p

I suppose I've never had the need to use PDFs.

    Thanks!

Now I'm getting confused! Is it possible that the version of Word included in Office packages has more facilities than stand alone versions?
