We are in the very early stages of considering what our next move will be (likely to be a relocation to a more expensive area for work reasons) and this thread fills me with dread! We had a rough ride buying last time (with no chain either side!), so not sure how we'd cope with being in a chain.

Feel really sorry for you. I can still remember the awful feeling when we lost out on a house 20 years ago. The chain fell through and we honestly thought it was meant to be for us. We consequently found another house where we have lived ever since. It felt like second best at first but later we realised that it would have been a mistake to buy the other house.

Being new to the area with pre-school children we hadn't thought about schools. The new house is within walking distance from the schools and is also at the better end of town. We also get on really well with our neighbours. We felt so lucky that we hadn't bought the other house. Hope you find something soon x
  • We are currently going through this as we speak :(

I have the phone glued to my side waiting to hear from EA whether the bottom of the chain will change their mind about withdrawing from buying our buyers property.

The reason given yesterday, was that we were taking too long to get certificates for building works done on the property, the reality was that we were waiting on a signature from the council, which was received by email this morning!

All surveys, searches are done and we were talking about exchange/completion dates just last Monday.
Nothing had been mentioned before about needing to complete quickly - the people that have pulled out are investors and will not even be living in the house anyway.

We accepted our offer just 6 weeks ago, so I think we were moving about as fast as possible to be honest!
I hope I can update with a happy ending soon :o

Fingers crossed for you. Sounds like an identical situation to what we had a couple of weeks ago. Sadly they wouldn't change their mind, but our buyer accepted a new offer less than a week later.

Still obviously got to wait around for people to catch up, but if everyone wants to move quickly and we all apply plenty of pressure we should be able to get things done swiftly.

It looks like our buyers buyer is the same and won't change their mind :( we are literally no more than a couple of weeks from completion - it seems madness to say we were taking too long.

Our buyer has re-marketed their property, even though we still have no confirmation that the other buyer has definitely pulled out as no one can get hold them. They have 4 viewers lined up for tomorrow already - EA says property is very sell able to first time buyers. We shall see...

I know - crazy. We were hoping to exchange on the day they pulled out. I still don't understand why they did.

We have ended up with an extra party in the chain this time round, which isn't ideal, but apparently everyone wants a quick move.

One thing to remember is that your buyer's ex-buyer will be able to sell the searches to the new party, which will save a couple of weeks.
  • I'm stuck in a chain, all going fine, a week away from completion then a call saying that someone can't get planning permission so are threatening to pull out, someone else 3 weeks into a 6 week process of getting local authority searches, someone else not even done fixtures and fittings yet.... We rushed and rushed to get things in place and now it looks like 2 months and nearly a thousand pounds it is going to fall apart.

There are 7 houses in my chain... So much scope for things to go wrong. Oh and as I live in the south east prices are rocketing and there is nothing left in our price range now even close to the size and quality of this house.

It's so stressful :( I'm fed up of it.
  • Babooski,

I'm so sorry to hear that you've had a torrid time, especially since you were expecting. I can't imagine how stressful that would have been.

I honestly hope that you find the best house ever, which will be worth all the turmoil. Will wait for the day you come back with positive news... It will happen :)
  • Excited13,
Your story has definitely lifted me :) really happy to hear things have worked out for you. Gives all of us in flux some hope. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
  • Anastasia,

I hope we are as lucky as you!
