I have stuck one on the wall and am going to leave it for 24 hours before using it.
I only read reviews afterwards which seem to suggest they will fall down. I googled and one tip is to apply clear nail varnish to the adhesive, let it dry and then stick to the wall.

Has anyone tried this or know some other way of keeping the hooks stuck to the wall?
I bought some to hang Christmas cards on, they couldn't even hold 10 cards. They repeatedly fell of the wall and left a sticky mess on the paint work. I won't bother again.0 -
Another vote for the 3M Command strips.
I have used and removed many of them and they have left no damage on the walls

Yep another vote for 3M here! We used them in our rented flat as it was brand new and we were paranoid about leaving marks- we had them on all the doors and successfully removed them all the end of the tenancy without any trace (they are designed with a loose flap on the adhesive so you slide the hook off and then drag the adhesive down the door until it gradually comes away). My parents also use them in their spanish house where previous hooks had all fallen off due to the adhesive melting in the heat,0

Thanks everyone.
Did any of you use surgical spirit, white vinegar etc. instead of the alcohol they recommend? Not only is it hard to get hold of, but expensive too.
I will be placing an order for the 3M Command strips today.
The one hook I did put up is fine so far with a coat on it, but I don't know how long it will last for.0 -
Not sure I used anything, I just wiped the wall with a cloth so it was basically clean and stuck them up0
