  • vuke paid quarterly on the last year for total of 1.1 at price 30 this 3.6% which is the ftse yield minus costs I guess.
You are an owner of the shares even if its through the trust so you receive the dividends one way or another

Even on a take over bid I dont think £12 but a broker said 5.99 which could happen but its getting overly optimistic

The dividends paid by the FTSE 100 companies will be passed on to you. Unless you choose to have them reinvested in more shares/units/ETFs whichever you hold.

Is it generally the case that index trackers pay dividends, then?

From the teensy amount of looking into I did yesterday, I kind of got the impression that dividend-paying index trackers were the exception.

For example (Motley Fool: Introducing The Index Tracker):
One key point to be aware of, though, is that most indices only track movements in share prices. A significant portion of total stock market returns come from dividends. So if you are comparing your portfolio's performance against an index, you'll need to exclude any dividends you've received. Alternatively you can measure your performance against a Total Return Index, which is an index that includes both share price movements and dividends.

The companies in the index pay dividends. What happens next depends on the specific tracker you're using. Accumulation (Acc) ones reinvest them automatically and include this in their value. Income (Inc) ones pay out the income to you. If you look at interactive charts showing performance you can often choose to display the total return of an income tracker and that will include thee effect of the dividends in its performance. Otherwise it'll lag behind the accumulation form because the money you're taking out as dividends isn't included in the value of the index.

One exception is the DAX, an index that includes dividend reinvestment.

Charges tend to be taken from income, though some that have an income objective take them from capital instead, bond funds, for example, tend to take charges from capital so their payout isn't reduced.
