Redspottedhanky changing terms of MSE £5 promotion

The recent MSE £10 voucher promotion with Redspottedhanky.com said that once you had the £10 voucher and spent over £20 without using the voucher, you'd get a £5 voucher "straight into your account".

I applied the £10 voucher to my account, then spent £40 on a ticket paying only with a credit card. I did not get the £5 voucher, so contacted RSH quoting the relevant term, namely:

"If you then book another journey costing £20+ (after receiving the £10 freebie), you'll receive an extra £5 straight into your account, which needs to be used by Tue 31 Dec also. Unfortunately, you can't use the free £10 against the next £20 booking. But if you get the £10, book your next £20+ journey and receive the £5 bonus, the £5 and initial £10 can be combined in your next booking."

They wrote back saying:

"Your £5 voucher will be credited as per the terms and conditions within 14 days of your first order over £20 (23.9.13). You did spend £40.20 on the 20.9.13 however as this booking was made before you spent the money saving expert voucher on a booking on the same day so it will not qualify as the first booking."

They also quoted the terms and conditions which had been changed to:

"As an added bonus, after the £10 freebie, book again, and if you spend over £20, you'll get another £5 added automatically to your account (within two weeks), to use till Tue 31 Dec. You cannot use the free £10 code against the £20 booking, but you can use the combined credit (£5 and £10) against a future booking."

"Straight into your account" has become a two-week delay.

Secondly, the new terms are contradictory, as they say "book again" implying you have to spend the "£10 freebie" first, but this makes it impossible to combine the £10 and £5 credit.

Could MSE take a look at this please?

    They have moved their goalposts.

But you still have a free £10 to spend.

And will still get another £5.

Hardly the MSE scam of the year material to get twisted knickers over.

    I wish!

RSH have just replied to confirm the original rules, apart from the 14-day delay.

However, no sign of the £5 after 17 days.

Personally, I think bait-and-switch is worth some knicker-twisting! You're told spend £20 and we'll give you £5, and then, we've changed our mind you now have to spend another £20 to get the £5. Hopefully, their latest email is correct and they're not playing that game, and it's just that the 14 days is under-estimated.
  • I was just about to ask the same thing! I didn't get £5 from my £20+ booking. I made an enquiry on MSE facebook, they didn't reply to me obviously. Your explanation makes some sense somehow.

What is the original rules, exactly? It should be spent £20+ with the £10 code, then get £5 for the next booking! or not??? But you had other explanations from them also, I'm very confused now...am I going to get the £5 or not from my 1st £20+ booking applying the £10 code???

Or did they mean 1st booking with £10 code; then 2nd booking with £20+ value; then you'll get £5 for the 3rd booking, which can be used with £10 code ????? what ????? but one person can only have one £10 code...confusing...why no MSE expert is replying to us regarding this???

    Thank you! I'm just confused.
  • Hi folks,

Apologies for not replying to your posts earlier.

    The offer was:

    1) Register for one of 10,000 free £10 RSH vouchers
    2) Spend £20+ in a booking (not using the free £10) and you'd be credited with £5.
    3) Both the £10 and £5 vouchers need to be used by 31 Dec.

When we wrote 'straight into your account', that meant you did not need to physically add the free £5 voucher code to your RSH account at the 'payment stage' or in the 'my account' page (as with the free £10 voucher). It was automatically added to your account within two weeks, ready to use once you met the criteria.

If you haven't received your £5 credit, do let us know by emailing !!!!!! so we can look into this for you.

    Thanks, MSE Paloma
