talktalk mobile, like talking to a brick wall!

Well I've had my mobile a short time and in the house it seemed ok but the more I've used it I've come to realise the signal is pants! outdoors in generally ok but not great, indoors is rubbish, as for using the internet indoors, pretty much non existant.
So I called up talktalk and after lots of waffle and both of us having to repaet ourselves, bad line plus a bit of an accent I had technical services call me back, first guy was rather pleased that he could solve the problem by switching my phone to 2g, hmm I have a samsung galaxy s3, not exactly what it was designed for or what I pay a contract for.
Next guy just went on and basically ended with making me switch the phone on and off and asked if I could make a call, well yes I can just not in some places thats the problem, I was promised a call back, it never came.
Rang again today, apparantly I didn't pass the security test so got passed around til a very friendly guy after much explaining (they just don't seem to listen!) told me that he was escalting my complaint to the back office and that after 48 hours I should turn my phone off, remove the sim, pop it back in, then turn on the phone, then my phone will definatly have better coverage. How on earth they can make the signal work better just like that I have no idea, it sounds like total bullcrap to me so going to have to call them again on monday and try and get it sorted.
Im not happy about being sold a phone that I can barely use.
I'd rather just return the phone and have done with it, theres no point having a great phone if you can't use it, even if they drop the monthly cost then perhaps I could pay for the phone and get a payg sim for the calls, rather than pay talktalk.
Anyone else have such useless service from talktalk? don't get me wrong they seem friendly and willing to help but refuse to deviate from their script and just don't seem to listen to the actual problem half the time so it's like talking to a brick wall!
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

  • Did the signal change or did you just accept the signal at first to then realise you weren't happy with it?
  • It's not changed. just as I used in in more and more places I realised that I was having signal problems when others on other networks were not, obviously a signals never going to be perfect everywhere but should definatly be better than it is!

  • There isn't much you can do if the signal, which you previously accepted, has not changed. You can try but Talk Talk have no obligations to compensate you or release you from contract. Signal wont work everywhere and in different places different networks perform better than others. I would test out signal next time you take a deal by using a PAYG SIM before you commit to 24 months.

Have you tried the SIM in another handset, just to rule out a handset fault?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • As above, try another handset.
Also, check the area you're in with a Vodafone signal checker (one on Vodas website) to see if you should have good coverage.

SIM card can be faulty as well.
Different part of the SIM card is responsible for 2G network and different for 3G. Reception of different bands can be different indoors.
  • If they don't/can't provide the service they promished you have a small chance to end the contract, but this is only a small chance. always ask to speak with a manager as they speak more fluent english.

Talk Talk is really bad for customer service also have NO real knowledge about Mobile or land line, all they have is a script to read from, if its not working unplug or switch off the device/ Plug in or turn the device on again, anything after that they're stumped on what to do/say and hang the phone up on you.
  • You do realise that TalkTalk Mobile are a "Virtual Network" don't you.

Essentially your coverage complaint is either related to the efficiency of the phone in reception and transmission (smart phones are often worse than "traditional" phones) or different networks having different coverage.

What network were you with previously and how did you find their coverage ?
