I wonder if half-baked Norman will make a parallel announcement for the private sector?
Banning council spy cars will surely have a read-across to the private sector and put a halt to the VCS airport operations?
The precedent will be set and the pressure wil be on Baker - the statement that parking issues are killing the High Street and driving more to online shopping is powerful. Well the same is happening on out of town retail parks too. The genie might well be climbing out of the bottle.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

Council tax will go up, as parking fines subsidise it.0

Not good, why should honest/non drivers subsidise lazy parkers?0

How, exactly, is bad parking being 'subsidised' by anyone? The monetary cost of someone parking on double yellows or similar is zero - it's usually a safety/traffic flow issue, with penalties issued as a deterrent.
Besides which, this won't stop the correct issuing of tickets, it will just stop indiscriminate use of cameras that can't differentiate between parking and loading (permitted on DYLs), can't tell if a car is displaying a blue badge, etc.0 -
Small print. Wait for the small print, good people.
Although I have warmed to Eric Pickles in his job as a minister.0 -
Sadly there is absolutely no chance of that actually happening due to the influence of the BPA - who the Government actually think are some sort of expert regulator. The BPA will be hopping mad over this, from the point of view of Councils and PPCs. The smarm of Troy and co. and the contacts & influence these fat cats have - such as David Taylor CBE (Parking Eye) will squash this flat. Wikipedia-check 'David Taylor CBE' to see how many pies his fingers are in.
But the idea is marvellous and we can dream!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Eric Pickles, old windbag himself.
Every week a new bag of wind, nothing ever gets done by this bloke, he has to be the most useless politician ever.
He would be far better just shutting up, nobody believes him any more or his jackanory tales.
Local councils will do what they like when they like, they are the dog, he is the tale.Be happy...;)0 -
