I am currently with t-mobile where the contract ends on 6/7/07
I have seen a phone on dial-a-phone on an O2 contract, dial-a-phone say the only way to port my number to 02 is by ordering through the sales line, they cant port via ordering on the internet, is this true? as i would mean i loose out on the £60 from quidco and make the deal far less attractive

I phoned O2 before I bought from Dial-a-phone to check I could port in (at the time Dial-a-phone said you couldn't port numbers to O2 at all).
I bought the phone, and O2 initially changed their minds, but after a few more calls said that they would port my number "as a goodwill gesture" (Ofcom say it should always be possible to port your primary mobile number...)
Instead of porting the number that I asked for, they reactivated an account I had cancelled months earlier, ported in that number, and disconnected the number I wanted to keep!
They did finally get the phone working on the right number, but had literally jumbled up the account numbers and phones - so my bills had a different phone number AND a different account number to the ones that Dial-a-phone had set up!
I was pretty sure that Dial-a-phone wouldn't pay the cashback because of this, and in the end, I must have called O2's "customer service" centre 50 to 100 times (on an 0800 number - ha!) to try to get them to resolve the problem. They always said they would call back, but never did. Eventually, I had to call them hourly (between 9am and 8pm) for two-and-a-half days before they "kindly" offered to pay my cashback.
So, although things worked out in the end, I would be pretty hesitant about getting another phone from Dial-a-phone and trying to port a number to O2!0
