Sony vaio laptop

I purchased a sony vaio laptop April 2013 but have an issue where it will not restore or recover. I spoke to Currys and they contacted Sony on our behalf. They have said since it is a software problem and not a hardware issue WE are to pay £50 for media recovery discs. Neither Currys or Sony are taking responsibility for a Laptop only 6mths old.
Please help, where do we stand legally

Is it software that you have installed that is causing the problem?

Yes, yes, but why are you even considering doing a restore or recover?
  • Because it does not work at all!

Well some people are trying to help you.

When you car needs attention and the guy in the garage says "can I help you?", do you reply with "my car doesn't work."?

I guess you did not create your own recovery disks ?

does it boot in safe mode ?

what is it that happens when you turn it on ?..Any messages or prompts ?
  • It did not prompt us to create recovery disc.
    Doesn't boot in safe mode
It initially says your laptop requires to restart and will do so in .....secs. It then goes to Vaio screen, then blank blue screen, then black screen and then says preparing auto recovery. After about 2mins it starts all over again. Same cycle. Never recovers or restarts .
    Stuck in a cycle.

There should be an assist button in the top right corner just above the keyboard, when the laptop is turned off press that button and see if it lets you boot into recovery mode.
