Arrangement to pay on credit file

  • Worth complaining.

Better to get the default over with rather than APs. Too late for you, but may help others.

  • I complained to BC regarding their use of AP markers as they did it for 6 years. The debt is settled now and sent them a letter with a number of reasons as to why they should have defaulted back 2007.

    1) default would be off now.
    2) worse position then someone who did default/IVA
    3) no missed payments whilst in AP
    4) AP should only be short term - I argued that even though they may be reviewing every 6 months ICO state that arrears should still occur so my monthly statements should have been 1,2,3,4,5,6 with an AP marker on the side this would then take them to the period of them reviewing it and ultimately even if a new arrangement has been agreed arrears still should show and because there are no more numbers they would have to report '6' all the time but then ICO also states that the number '6' should not be used instead if a default.
    5) I explained why I fell on hard times (redundancy).

They called me today to confirm that they are going to back date a default and account should be off within 24 hours (I will post again to say if they have) They said they do not wish to put their customers in a worse position then another person who made no effort to pay and because the payment plan is 6 years old they would remove it. The guy was very nice. I used the customer relations address given on the first page. Although I do think that by having the debt settled helped hugely!

I hope this helps someone else.
  • I hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread but it is of great interest to me as I have 2 old Studio Cards accounts on arrangements that have been that way for over 4 years. I have not paid any interest since the arrangements began and they are nearly clear. Studio have never asked for an increase and I recently called to put them both back on to normal payments to improve my credit rating. They show as satisfactory on Experian with arrangement start date as Oct 2010 but just as AP on Equifax as far back as it reports. I hoped reinstating them as normal accounts would help my credit rating but by the sound of it when this takes effect next month it will make no difference. Is there anything I can do about this??

From what I understand from my research over the past few weeks experian will report the date which you came out of the arrangement to pay and equifax AP markers will drop off month by month once you are paying the normal amount and eventually you should have a green line showing your most recent activity.
  • Susie how strange I had the same phone call today, I wrote them a letter which got there yesterday & they have called me today and said the same thing as you, because the AP markers go back more than 6 years they are going to get it removed from my credit file (for both accounts).

I'm happy, I have been given a number to call in case anything shouldn't come off but I have been advised to give it at least 3 months to update on all 3 CRA's.

That's great news for us both! I'll update if/when they do it and then perhaps you could use it to argue that it could be removed quicker as 3 months is a very long time - he told me within 24 hours and will call the agencies tomorrow. (That is if you're bothered about the time frame you might just be happy that they have agreed :-))

Thanks Susie, the men said 24 hours for it to update on Barclaycard system, but said the 3 CRAs could take up to 3 months :-)
  • Do you think I would be better asking Studio to mark it as default in 2010 so that it will drop off my file in 2016 or as the green marks appear over the next year or so will my credit rating improve anyway?? It's just that the six month rule doesn't seem to have been applied to me either!! So good that you have both sorted things out with Barclaycard though!! :D

I had the settled AR markers on Barclaycard from a DMP in 2007.

Had it defaulted in 2007 it would've left the account last year as per the other settled but defaulted accounts.

I wrote to complaints and stated that I am in a worse position than defaulting, as the AR markers were present until the account was closed in 2011, therefore will be visible until 2017.

I also said that this was inconsistent with the ex-Egg Barclaycard, which had defaulted under Egg.

They got back to me and offered to remove the account from the CRAs, which I thought was a satisfactory course of action.

It sounds like people are finally having success with these AP markers!

Greybear - as my accounts were over 6 years old, settled and should have dropped off my file anyway I think that's why I had good success. I'm not sure on the best course of action for you to be honest, if you are still paying back on the account they might not be willing to adjust it?
