Why not switch to clippers? I do find it feels different to scissors.
I also agree with the suggestion of doing it after a bath/shower.

I hate having my toe nails cut too and I'm a lot older than 2!
Absolutely hate and detest my feet being touched at all. A pedicure would be an absolute torture for me!

I have to read while OH cuts my nails for me after a bath. :o I've tried cutting my own but can't do it. Really makes me cringe.

He hates those as well I'm afraid. I started off with clippers and switched to scissors. I switch between the two, just in case at some point one becomes more bearable than the other.

I absolutely hated it too as a kid. Well, you are being poked at with a sharp object after all! It's only natural to be apprehensive. We adults know we won't hurt ourselves, but kids have to entrust their sensitive fingers to someone else. I wouldn't like my nails being cut by anyone else even now tbh. :o

do you cut them very short? I used to hate it when dad did it as it looked like they had been bitten down to the quick!
I find the grandkids don't seem to mind having them 'filed down'. though it does take longer!

My 7yo doesn't like his nails trimmed but will tolerate it now. I think it's the sensation of putting the clippers under the nails to trim them?

Toddlers dislike most things anyway except getting their own way!

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • gosh i did all manner of things to mine while they were asleep
cut finger and toe nails, trimmed their fringe, anything like that
i use to put a piece of paper under their fringe to catch the hair:D
    luckily they were deep sleepers
  • Both of mine hated it when they were younger, so I relegated the job to my sister.
Haven't a clue what they're like nowadays, as she's being doing it for 6 years or so!
  • Can you get the 8yo to hold the 2yo for you? Cuddles take the sting out.
Then promise 8yo a Special Big Hug for cooperation or better yet cutting his own nails.
My neighbour has 3 under 5 and nail clipping after bath time is done to the sound off the Bat Out Of Hell album at full blast. Got to be worth a try?!
  • I hated having my nails cut when I was younger as my mother used to pull my fingers back underneath the nail so hard so she didn't cut my skin it was incredibly painful. I said 'ow'! and she assumed I was just whining about it... I'm now a serial nail biter! Maybe use a nail file instead? Maybe your holding their hands to tight?
