Anyone heard of Erad's. Had a call from some company telling me that they can save 50 - 80% off my heating bill compared to storage heaters (trying hard not to laugh). I thought I would just have a look at them to see what type of snake oil they were trying to shift but have drawn a complete blank online. They are supposed to be energy saving trust recommended but I can find no mention of them on that site.
I suspect they are the same as the Rointe ones that are often mentioned.
Any info would be good

Never heard of aluminium radiators before !!0 -
I don't think it is these as we are restricted to electric only in my house - no gas or space for a tank for oil etc.0

Did you read the thread?
I would want to see some technical details on a website - including price.
I would be wary of any product where you are 'cold called' and a salesman wants to visit.
As said many times, all electrical heating, including infrared, give out exactly the same amount of heat, for the same running cost.
There are loads of posts about the merits and demerits of infrared heating and a search will find them.
If you are convinced about infrared heating, then they can be bought very cheaply. I suspect that E Rad will not be cheap!!0 -
I had a cold call from this company optima energy said they could reduce my fuel bill by 50% I agreed to a visit by a rep
Turned out a complete new system price started at £16,000 salesman dropped it by 25% then rang his manager another 25% drop if I would sign on the night . Has anyone had system install can't find any info on company on the net Rep had no ID or any info to leave with me0 -
There are plenty of entries on line for Optima Energy - http://www.optimaenergy.net/company
However they appear to be a large international firm.
They might be interested in hearing from you.0 -
Hi thanks for the quick reply
The company in question is optima energy/ erad .com
Small uk firm0 -
Avoid this particular company.
I am sure infrared heating is a thing of the future, but don't be giving any of your hard earned to a random company that cold calls you, especially not this one.0 -
In answer to the OP, Erad does have a website: https://www.eradsystems.com
They are based in Greater Manchester and the Manchester Evening News website has a story about them receiving an enterprise grant. Erad's website makes reference to Logicor CH. It appears that Logicor has designed/developed the heating system and their system controller is approved by the Energy Saving Trust. Logicor sells the system as 'Clear Heater System' and has its own website, https://www.clear-heater.co.uk and the product looks identical to Erad. There are no prices on either company's website, which sets alarm bells ringing for me.
From some online reading, the claim for these systems is that by using infrared energy they heat 'objects' (including people) and not the air, which is why infrared heaters work outside in pubs and restaurants. If an infrared heater doesn't heat the air inside a home then it could result in lower energy usage. I know from my own home's heat loss calculations that our ventilation losses are about the same as the fabric losses, although we do have better than average insulation.
However, I have been unable to find any scientific evidence from experiments or trials which backs up these claims. I have seen evidence online which confirms that a subject in a room at 10º C did not feel cold when heated directly by a low output infrared emitter so I'm prepared to keep an open mind, but I am confident that it would be more cost effective to use gas or wood to maintain the background temperature of 10º C and use small, cheap and portable infrared heaters for personal heating (and not these mysterious, expensive, fixed heaters). In fact, I might put that to the test in the autumn!
I suspect that electric infrared systems are priced and sold on the 'return on investment' model, similar to how installers exploit the Renewable Heat Incentive – 'yes £20,000 on a pellet boiler sounds a lot but don't worry, the RHI income will pay back that cost for you in seven years.'
As always, the best investment is improved insulation and draught elimination, to reduce the total heat demand.0
