im sorry if this is not in the right place but im new here
i was wondering if anyone could help me.
i get paid every 4 weeks from by boss by cheque and it really is a pain having to wait a further week for it to clear...what i want to know is ive read somewhere on a forum that you can take it into the paying bank and they can cash it there and then...you see she pays me by personal cheque not a buisness one (im a carer) .i have asked to be paid by bacs as on my contract under payment method it says bacs or cheque but she is refusing to pay by bacs and has said she wont do it because a previous employer messed her about and she refuses to do it again. also she wants me to take my contract back in to cross off the bac payment method in my contract.all i want to know is can it be cashed any earlier as its really messing with my finances at the moment.:(
EDIT
so could i open a bank account in the same branch as my boss and get it cleared sooner?

Theres no need for the contract to be changed for her benefit, it already has an or statement so it is up to her to decide which mechanism to use out of the options you gave her.
Some banks do express cheques from their own company and so if you were to open an account with her bank then you may be able to get the funds as soon as the cheque is deposited but obviously check before going to the hassle of account opening.0 -
To get paid cash you need to determine whether you have been given a crossed cheque, which cannot be cashed but only deposited into your bank account. A crossed cheque has 2 parallel lines across the front or in the left corner and is issued to help prevent it from being fraudulently cashed."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

I would have thought it was a darn sight more simple to pay by BACS than mess about with cheques to be honest.0

I think it is very unlikely that the OP's employers has uncrossed cheques, don't think I've seen one for about 20years.
OP if you have an account at the same bank as your employer or transfer your account to her branch you should be able to access the funds a lot quicker. Next time you get paid why not pop into her bank and ask them.0 -

She would have had to do something else if cheques had been withdrawn, which they were threatening to do at one time. I have gone to the same branch of a bank as the person who wrote me a cheque and it has cleared the same day, but our bank accounts were both part of HSBC."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0
