Jumping page when scrolling

The 'kids' bought me a new mouse, branded with the Stoke City logo :o (Supplied by mouselist.com)

As I scroll down the pages, using the wheel, suddenly it will jump up a few lines.
It does it with Firefox and Chrome, I'm on Win7

Possibly a 'driver' issue??? Device manager says that the drivers are up to date (but dated 2006!)

Any suggestions

Try using the mouse on a different surface. Optical mice (which almost all are these days) don't like some surfaces e.g. very shiny or patterned surfaces.

It *only* happens when I scroll down using the wheel

The old mouse mat gives the same problem and I don't think a red Stoke City mouse would look good on a Mansfield Town blue mat ;)

I have changed the 'wheel' scroll setting from 3 lines to 2 lines and I *think* that may be better.
    Why should that be better????

    Leave it with me
  • In Firefox to can go to Options---Advanced---General and check for how scrolling is set , and if you really need to fine tune the options go to about:config in the url address bar, but that is up to you it can be a problem if you change something inadvertently, look for smoothScroll there are several settings.

Thanks - have set it to 'smooth scrolling' but I *think* it's not just FF. (but that's where I spend most of my time!)

There are loads of things in about:config about mousewheel, but no instructions!! :o

    EDIT - it's still not right :-(

Indeed it seems to be with all things - just tried a .pdf and the same happened.

    :(

Try altering your refresh rate in graphics properties.

Install Driver Max and see if that can update your driver. It's free, you only have to create an account and away you go http://www.drivermax.com/

Well, it told me that there were 23 drivers were 'not up to date' so I clicked on the 'mouse' one only to be told that "no downloads available for this device"

EDIT - I have now managed to install this program and 'system restore' after 2 'blue screens of death' in 15 minutes

    :-(
