Asda tyres prices seem pretty good when I last compared tyre prices with a local garage. Ive always gone for the middle range of tyre, not the best not the worse, just the middle ones.0

Not a bad shout.
The sweet spot for tyres IME is the "not-quite-premium" mid-range bracket. Stuff like Falken, Toyo, Uniroyal, Hankook and Khumo, with the like of Nexen and Maxxis in there if you're feeling the pinch.
I've found that these brands tend to outperform the bottom-of-the-range offerings from the big 5 (the like of the Pirelli P6000 etc). They won't match the very best, but a small amount of compromise can be lived with.0 -
I've used Kumho and Maxxis in the past, both good tyres and leagues ahead of ditchfinders, although the Kumho wore fairly quickly. Not a bad shout.

Last 2 sets have been Bridgestone and you can tell the difference, especially in the wet. Got some mid-range Cooper winter tyres to go one when the weather changes, hoping they are also good for the money.0 -
https://www.tyrereviews.co.uk is an excellent place to start if you want to make an informed tyre choice. Not so much for the user reviews, but for the more structured tyre tests that the site collates results for.0

I put 4 Kumhos on our Polo and they've been really good. Don't do a lot of miles in it though.
The Octavia was bought at 16k miles when the fronts (Dunlop?) had just worn out and been replaced with new Maxxis by the dealer. I hadn't heard about them, assumed they were poor budget tyres but thought I'd just run them till they wore out. 16k later, they are down to 5mm tread and have been fine, maybe a little noisy.
From a mse-point of view I agree that both are good tyres.0
