I have just been reallys stupid and opened an email I shouldn`t have, closed it straight away then got email from friend saying don`t open any emails from me as my computer has been hacked.
Please can anyone tell me what I should do? will someone be able to get into my accounts etc.. I`m a bit worried.
Thanks

I think there is something that can take your computer back to a time before the email came in.
It happened to me last year.
Im sure some techie can help you out sometime soon on here.
So stop worrying lolmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks, I know what you mean but that option on my computer doesn`t seem to work!! always get an error message when I try it..0

it really depends on what type of email it actually was.
but simply opening it shouldn't cause you any problems
most require to you click on a link or open the attachment in the email.
have you noticed any problems since opening it ?0 -
Thanks for replying, everything seems the same.
I have just run a quick Avast scan and it was clear and am running a full scan which is 87% done and nothing has come up.
When I clicked onto the link (it didn`t look the same as the usual iffy ones), it went to a website but then I realised I`d been silly and closed it down straight away.
My problem is, as I know so little about what I`m doing half the time, I worry that someone will get access to all my bank accounts etc...

The chances are everything will be fine if you didn't download and run anything. To be sure download and scan with Malwarebytes - virus scanners don't usually pick up malware.0
-
So you both opened the email and then followed a hyperlink in that email?
That's not what quite you said in your first post (which suggests that you just opened the email and then closed it).
However a full scan should sort it out either way.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks, I`ll do that now.0

Sorry macman, I clicked on email to open it as I knew the person and then as it didn`t look like one of the `suspect` ones I get quite often I clicked on the link..
I have done a full scan with Avast and nothing is showing. Will do malware scan to check (why do I get myself into these messes!!!!)
Is it easy to see if anything shows up, ages since I have done one of these?0 -
This is what the scan says, please can anyone let me know if its ok?

A PUP is just a "potentially unwanted program" and a quick google on Offercast2802_DEMOTB suggests that this is the Ask toolbar which gets bundled with lots of legitimate stuff these days. You can either leave it in place if you use it, uninstall it (I think), or tell Mayware bytes to remove it. It's probably been there for ages. It looks like it may only be in the Downloads folder anyway - I'm not sure if it would be reported if it was installed.0
