Satellite Service

I recently purchased a pre-paid 12 month satellite tv card and receiver from a supplier in the Irish Republic. A few days after receiving the goods the supplier emailed me explaining the broadcaster had terminated the suppliers reselling agreement without notice or offer of compensation to their [the supplier's] customers. The system worked for a couple of weeks then I lost the service I had paid for.
Can anybody please explain my consumer rights in pursuing a refund or alternative compensation. My understanding is as my transaction was with the supplier then they are responsible for any refunds, compensation due for loss of service.

Depends on the wording. Was the reseller acting as a principal or as an agent? Check the T&C's.
If as a principal, then your remedy is with the reseller.
Contractl law in the ROI should not be fundamentally any different to the UK in this respect AFAIK.No free lunch, and no free laptop

What service was the card /subscription for and did you receive a card for your receiver?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I received both card and receiver. He as offered me a cash compensation of a fraction of the initial cost and I keep receiver and card (which is useless without paying again for a subscription.)
I have not signed a subscription agreement with any company. The card was prepaid for 12 months after which it is de-activated. It was deactivated after less than a month. My thinking is the supplier is responsible as my contract of purchase is with him. If he has issues with his supplier he needs to take it up with them.0 -

Didn't see any T&C's. They have now offered me an alternative service of similar value so happy with outcome. Thanks for the posts.0
