Evil weevils

I've often had these and when I investigated on the internet I found that they are in flour right from the very beginning - i.e when it is growing in the fields. They arrive as eggs and then hatch out when your flour gets a bit warm.
But they can spread like mad to all sorts of other flour based foods!
I read that they dont like bayleaves so I have sprinkled bayleaves in my cupboards. Also I have removed the flour from wall cupboards because heat rises and those cupboards which have lights under them because they get really warm0 -
These tiny creatures are common in flour. It does not seem to matter whether you keep it in sealed containers or what. They seem to get into any flour that is left unused for a while. Obviously the flour could be old when you buy it. It takes a very keen eye to even see them, they are tiny and almost see through. Just need to stare at one spot for a while, any movement and they are probably there. Even if they are harmless, I wouldn't feel comfortable, eating anything made from the flour. I have heard of them being found in pasta too.Keep on trucking!0

Put your bag of flour in a freezer bag. Keep it in the freezer until needed.0

The weevils actually can be in the bag joints so not always noticeable at quick glance. Always take your flour from the packet immediately and put in a container, I use old ice cream tubs. I've never had a problem since my old mum told me about this years ago! I asked her about this and she reckoned the problem is the paper bag not the flour?
Don't know if that's the case but its definitely worked for me .0 -
They can cause tummy upsets. You must store all food in sealed containers (cereal, flour etc). When I had them the first time I cleared out all my cupboards and bleached the shelves down, and threw all my food out. They came back though within a few weeks. I did the same again, but this time I bought some plastic food storage containers and haven't had a problem since.0

Hi
I was told to keep my flour in the freezer !!!!!!!!!!!0 -
I was told by a Mills representative that the creatures came, after a while in storage, from the paper the flour was packed in! If that is correct, there is no need for the scorched earth policy in the kitchen?? Doh!0

The easiest way to keep the weevils away is to put some bayleaves inloose in the corner of the cupboard. It is very difficult to remove every trace of flour grains from the crevices, and the bay leaves keep them away. If you can find fresh ones they are better, otherwise dried ones will do but they will need replacing every couple of months(fresh ones every year)
I have a pasta machine, which is difficult to clean, and it works well near to that.
Hope this helps0 -
OMG
I have some old bags of flour in the back of the cupboard and daredn't even have a look in there now....
Eeeeewwwwww.....
As we all seem to be experts on insect life - what are those furry little things you occassionally find (or at least I do.....!?:o ) on your walls? They are about 2 - 3 mm long and just look like fuzzy little things. They don't move very quickly, but do seem to just disappear.... Unfortunately you can't google a picture!0 -
These are blobs of sauce0
