Christmas Budget

  • I probably sound really tight but Xmas only costs me about £50.
I love Christmas, love the atmosphere, food and spending time with people but we don't bother with gifts.
I'll spend £20 on boyfriend, £20 on mum and about £10 more on food than in a normal week. Any other token gifts are homemade cakes etc that only cost a few pound to make. Oh and about £10 on ingredients for my xmas cake and pudding but I make them a couple of months beforehand.
  • an ostrich cushion is a boneless piece of ostrich (!) tied into a cushion shape so its easy to carve. We go to a lot of continental markets, and love to try new food ideas. I also have a bottle of champagne I won in a raffle which we will drink with it. xxx

I'm hoping to keep our Christmas budget under £150 this year. We're going away for 3 weeks so no extras for food etc, and the decorations are staying in the loft! DH and I have decided not to get each other gifts, the holiday is our gift to each other (taking gifts away is too much hassle and we have limited luggage allowance as it is).

I'm hoping to come in around £300 this year - thats £50 on OH (so far have spent £44 and RRP's are £112 - so doing well)
£25 each on parents and in laws
£20 on Brother and his OH
£15 each max on others -BIL, Friends and a few Aunts and Uncles

I will also be away for Christmas, so need things that are easily transported for some.
Also need to find out how presents work in my OH's family and see if we need to buy for non immeadiate family who will be there on Christmas day - might increase the budget if we do.
Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.
  • Im hoping for somewhere about £400, we are having my wifes family round for Christmas dinner so that will cost quite a bit for food and drink but apart from that we are keeping the presents small this year.

    I'm thinking of a budget around £500-600.

Mum/Dad/Sister - £150 each (but could be much less...just need to figure out what to buy!)
Lodger - £40 (this will be his third Christmas staying with me...he's going home for Christmas so can get stuff in the sale without him knowing!)
Food - £50 (I'll just buy the seafood starters and some chocs/biscuit stuff)

I don't do any other pressies - I work from home so can avoid the work Secret Santa and Christmas do and usually just go out for a dinner with friends in January.

I've bought 4 little gifts for Mum and Dad already at under £20 and need to think of a good main present.

    I'm so excited already :-)

I only have adults to buy for so I don't spend that much:

    Partner - £20
    Mum - £20
    Dad - £20
    Brothers - £20 x 2
    Best friend - £15
    Other friends - £10 x 3
    In-Laws - £10 x 2
    Secret Santa - £5

    = £170

    I've spent £46 so far.
  • ours is

£400 on the 3 children, so far spent £190/£400 and over halfway done :)
£400 on family and friends pressies (30 children/parents/grandparents) we've spent £173/£400 and have 11 pressies to go
    £200 on food

We then spend a token £30 on each other, and save up a tin throughout a year which we abandon the children with their grandparents and treat ourselves to the christmas sales for anything we want

(I have no idea whats in the tin so looking forward to the 26th!)

I'm looking at a second year of spending nothing on Christmas presents :o

I have won everyone's gifts/gift cards to use to buy gifts so they have cost me nothing :o

    I have to get for:
    1 x nan
    1 x uncle
    1 x aunt
    2 x fathers
    2 x mothers
    1 x sister
    1 x BIL
    1 x DH
    1 x DS
    1 x DD

Only got sister and DH to get for now and still have about £200 in gift cards left to spend :)

I've also got £44 in m&s vouchers to put toward the luxury food and we always have chicken for Christmas dinner so even that shouldn't cost me any more money . . . . Well along as DH, DS and DD don't sneak anything extra in my trolley :rotfl:
