Christmas Budget

  • I agree with Zepsgirl, you could bake some Christmas themed cupcakes and biscuits, wrap them in cellophane with a ribbon, make boxes for the cupcakes, handmade cards, handmade wrapping paper if you wanted to. Maybe if you have any scraps of fabric laying around or felt maybe a homemade decoration too? I would recommend checking out Pinterest and search for homemade Christmas gifts, there are so many ideas and cost next to nothing :)
  • Well this year will be a frugal one. My child's dad pays £200 for his presents, this will be plenty as he also receives a lot of money off relatives. I only have my part time wage, so I pay for his Christmas outfit and any extras. this will be the first year he knows about "the big man", so I am determined to put a lot of Christmas magic in there somehow. Each year we sit down and make at least one tree ornament ourselves, this year especially we have come to realise that its not about how much you spend, its about who you have with you round the table, and that everyone is healthy.

In the back of the freezer is an ostrich cushion from the continental market, that will be our Christmas Dinner, with all the trimmings. Last year I bought a large turkey, we were over faced and most of it went to next door's dog.
I hunt for bargains all year round for family and friends, and love everything about Christmas.
  • This year will be cheap:

    Mum-£10
    Older sister-£10
    Younger sister-£10
    Niece- £20
    Older son-£150
    Younger son- £150
    Food/drink- £80

    Total= £430 :)
  • My budget is probably about £2400

    £700 x 3 for the 3 kids
    £150 for food
    £150 on sundries
    £20 my dad

Save up in advance, money has been sitting in bank for a few months ready for christmas.

We only buy for our own 3 kids, we do not buy for each other or any other family. No one else buys for our kids.

We are in a good position this year, having been saved up since around March/April. Then I started work fulltime end of June, so saving all surplus cash.

Mum and dad always give us cash and get an under tree pressie which we traditionally open when we go to there house for the Christmas meal. This year they have asked if we mind if we don't get an under the tree pressie which I'm fine..

Had to chuckle but both me and sister like the tradition and as mine are young have both asked if we can get something from the money and put under the tree.

Really don't know what to do this year for the girls as they are at the age where they like opening things but have so much I don't want to get things for the sake of it that are used for one month if that.

    My budget

    16 relatives at £10 each
3 Kids at £50-60 each (that includes stockings)
DH £50 and something for me.
Maybe a few bits for a few neighbours, friends, kids' friends.... (preferably home made)
Chrtismas eve stuff (board game, treats)

So under £450 hopefully and say £100 for food etc.
I don't spend a lot on my children, I like them to have a stocking, one big (but not as big as birthdays) present and few small or joint presents. I really don't want them to learn to expect a lot and I certainly don't go into debt for christmas.

yeah i know what you mean, I dont like to go in debt for Christmas either, however I do actually make more of a thing of Christmas rather than birthdays. Reason being both my children have a January birthdays so its usually just one item and then clothes from the sale. limit myself to £100.00 each for birthdays.

You could have frozen the turkey in curry etc...by the way, whats an ostrich cushion?
  • we go to relatives at xmas and i save all year
so we have 31 pressies to buy at a budget of maximum £10 per person, me and OH do not buy pressies for each other at xmas
we have the same amount of birthday pressies to buy but we save all year and have same budget for birthday (except for each other and we do buy each other pressies :))
