  • OP, is the form for a nursery place or a place in a reception class?
Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman
  • if she is england then it will be for starting school my LO is 4 this week and she is starting sept 2014 so anyone born between sept 1st 2009 and aug 31st 2010 will start school in sept 2014
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5
  • What would be your concerns OP? Does your child go to any sort of nursery now? They prepare them quite well these days for infant school.

Your child will come on a heck of a lot in the next year, so may well be more than ready to start.

My middle boy, born August 21st, was the youngest bar one. The only issue they had was getting him to answer his name to the register, took about 6 months apparently!
    Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
    And now the final frame
    Love is a losing game
  • My DD2 was the second youngest in the class. And the smallest, slightest little thing you could imagine - there were a couple of September birthday kids who were also tall & overweight and they were HUGE compared to her.

    She did fine.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Yup you are officially Rock n Roll :D
  • No particular issues apart from thinking he is just too young for 5 full days at school. He has always been quite advanced with his communication and is big for his age but he's still my baby :D

Currently he attends preschool for 3 full days (9 til 3) and loves it but he is very tired.

From what I can find out I can keep him part time (15-20 hours) until the term after he is 5. The letter I received states I MUST apply before January 2014 and gives no options other than attending school at 4.

He'll survive and be much better for starting with the other kids.

My DS has just started and his birthday is in August, so he's only just 4. But he's fine and I can't imagine him starting at a later date and then trying to catch up, not only with the work (but he's already done alot of good stuff in 2 weeks), but also with the social structure.

We used to have different holidays in our town Finished for Summer end of June /beginning July and went back Mid August, then had one week off early September. This meant that in the August some children who were not 4 till later that month had started full time school at just 3 years. Mine were October and March so one wasn't far off 5 and one almost 4 and a half.
  • My birthday is towards the end of July, I was never the youngest in the class but was one of the youngest. I started school at 4 and my birthday always fell just a few days/ a week Max after the end of term.
I never really felt the difference. When they make note of the ages in a school year its always "reception 4/5" ''year 1 5/6" and I just happened to be in the age band that over lapped at the end of the years :-)

Unless you really do feel it would not be beneficial for your child to go to school at four then there's no reason you shouldn't let them go full time and spend their days having fun making lots of new friends

My DS1's birthday is Aug 3rd so he was one of the youngest. He was absolutely ready to go to school and loved it

in a year's time he could be totally ready for school, if he's in preschool for school hours 3 days a week just now :).
