Does anyone know if the regional (Yorkshire and maybe other area(s)) strike by a couple of teaching unions is going ahead next week- Tues Oct 1st?
I've been asked to work but am unsure if DD's school is closed. She left the letter about it at school and there's a problem on the school website accessing letter. I'm trying to find out now, rather than wait until morning, in order to sort someone out looking after her for the day if she's not at school. I've asked on my fb page and someone has said there is no longer striking taking place as the unions have backtracked. I can't find any news story supporting this though.

Yes, two unions are taking strike action, although that doesn't mean all members of those unions will strike and doesn't necessarily mean your daughter's school will close.0

DH's school is striking on 17th October (London). He's not been told it's been called off."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Ok, that sounds like the possibility IS still there. I'll make a contingency plan - thanks.0

haven't a clue - we got a notice at work today as well about it, otherwise I probably wouldn't have found out anything about it from the school until (at the earliest) 3.45pm on September 30th.0

I think it is best to assume that the schools are closed. Especially if they normally close on strike days.0

I'm in the NUT and I'm striking but not all teachers in my school will. Sometimes Head Teachers just close the classes effected if there is no picket line. There is no obligation to tell your head you are striking which is why some schools have no choice but to close.0

Bear in mind the school may not know. As someone else said, teachers are not obliged to tell their school if they intend to strike.0
