Cathay Pacific - economy

Hi

I have provisional reservations with Cathay P in economy for Feb to Australia from the UK - I have discovered there are 2 types of economy (old & new!!) Old - the seats do not recline!! They cannot tell me which ones I would be getting - cant imagine flying that distance without being able to recline!

Has anyone any experience of this?

I researched a lot for my dates and route and I am really happy with it - now not sure whether to start again - fed up!

Have a look at seatguru.com, you can put the flight number in and it'll tell you everything you want to know about the seating!
  • Ok many thanks will go and try it now! fingers crossed as I don't fancy hard shell non reclining seats for 24 hours!!

  • Great website for choosing location of seats but it did not give me the info on the non reclining seats.I will try phoning Cathay directly. Thanks again.

Read some reviews on the AirlineQuality website. However, I cannot believe that they would operate long-haul flights with seats that don't recline! I used them once for a return trip to Hong Kong and flying between Hong Kong and Vietnam: I cannot remember anything about seats reclining or not, but I am sure that I would remember if I had been unable to recline (except that on the outbound journey I had a whole row to myself so lay down to sleep -- sweet!).
  • Worth looking on the Cathay part of the Flyertalk forums, lots of info on which planes fly where, what type of seat they have etc.

For more specific info on economy scroll down to Post # 8 on that page.

All the economy seats recline, but it seems the hard shell ones are not quite so comfortable.

    HTH.

Phoning CPA won't help, as (understandably) they can never guarantee in advance exactly which plane will be used on a particular sector.
As above, all long haul economy seats offer some degree of recline. What's more important (unless you are short) is the seat pitch.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • The seats do recline, and are not particularly old! What is unusual is that you recline into your own space, so the seat moves forward rather than onto the person behind you. I prefer them, but many did not, hence why they have gone back to the more traditional style.
  • Many thanks for all the replies. I have now read the comments on other forums and seen video clips - most people seem to hate the hard shell fixed back economy seats! The back does not recline at all, but your seat cushion slides forward so you are slightly reclined but you then lose legroom! I cannot believe that they expect you to sit like this for 24 hours.... I tried calling but as a previous post mentioned they do not know which plane it will be. I have 3 overnight flights so back to the drawing board! I was so happy with route and price - to go up to premium economy adds £1350 more pp!!

Not if the person in front of you also moves forward.

No, because the seat back is fixed, and that goes for the person in front of you as well.
