I must be very strange, I quite like the ad.

I guess the advert worked, as it got people talking about it.
  • It's a shock tactic.

I use Asda's own brand which does seem to clean my teeth when I can't be bothered to brush or forgot my toothbrush.

It certainly seemed to help with my mouth infection (a bit of an enlarged gum in my cheek).

I wonder if the QI fact extends to all types or just a few.

As any devoted fan of QI will testify, using mouthwash is a complete waste of time and money and 'Halitosis' is a non-existent condition made up by the manufacturers of Listerine.

    All hail Stephen Fry :p
I recall that episode. They did make fun of "halitosis", as a condition created by Listerine. But mouth washes for the purposes of maintaining healthy teeth and gums is not a joke. Unless you think that dentists themselves have been fooled, given they recommend it as part of regular mouthcare and will even prescribe it.

Frankly, I'm surprised Listerine (or whoever their parent company is) were allowed to get away with that campaign—didn't the ASA object?

I had a problem with a swollen tongue last year, after my wisdom tooth got chipped - the sharp edge rasped my tongue - yes it was painfully.
My Dentist, recommended Corsodyl to reduce the swelling and calm it all down - which thankfully it did.
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard

Actually mouthwash is only rarely prescribed and only for a short time as chlorhexidine stains teeth.

98% of all mouthwash are classed as cosmetic they have no therapeutic value at all. Many make bad breath worse as they dry out the mouth because of their alcohol content. Moreover if you use a mouthwash within an hour of brushing teeth the ingredients of the mouthwash and toothpaste interact and negate each other and you wash all the fluoride off from your teeth.

Dont belive everything you see on QI.
  • Now I don't usually complain about adverts but what were they thinking? It's the advert where the woman bleeds from various face holes before spitting blood and revealing a gap-toothed smile.

The catchy catchphrase is 'for those who spit blood when you brush your teeth'.

As it happens I once bought a bottle of this since it was cheap. Now most mouthwash is just mint flavoured water. This stuff was like swishing lighter fluid round your mouth for a minute. Seems the actual product is as revolting as the advertising campaign.

Yep it IS gross. And also the one where the girl SPITS blood into the sink, and it's always on a tea-time!

The analogy where it says 'you wouldn't tolerate blood fcoming rom any other part of your body' is BS. Bleeding from your gums is perfectly natural/normal; it happens every time I have a polish and scrape at the dentist! But bleeding from your eyes isn't natural. Stupid advert!

Bleeding from your gums is NOT normal or natural. You should never need a scale and polish ever. If you need one it is because you are not using floss/tepe brushes and tooth brush effectively and tartar is building up. The build up of plaque and tartar makes your gums inflammed and that's why they bleed. A healthy mouth will have no tartar , will not need a scale and polish and will not bleed. Next time at the dentists you should ask how to stop the tartar building up so you don't need the scale and polish in future. http://www.dentalhealth.org/tell-me-about/topic/gum-disease/gum-disease
  • also bleeding from the gums can be a sign of heart disease and other health problems.
