Virgin Deal- Any good?

Tried to cancel VM broadband. Istead they offered me this deal
XL Tv with Tivo 500gb box
Phone with free weekend calls
broadband 30mb
£25 setup
£36.99 - 6 months
£46.99 - 6 months

What you reckon?

  • Personally I don't think it's a good deal.

Customers are seduced by having a pay TV package but you have about 150 channels that you never watch and the rest are free on freeview.

Plus 30mb is the slowest they do.
  • Yeah, I know. I would rather Freeview but girlfriend found out True Blood is on Fox.... I've no choice! lol

As long as it is a good deal I'm happy!
What other deals have people got?

  • well it looks a good deal to me .

    I have

    TV XL
    V+ HD box
    20 MB Broadband

No landline { as I did not need a landline } and my current payment is £51.15 per month { well out of contract } -

Sadly due to two previous strokes I am unable to speak clearly enough so calling Virgin is not a option for me so I am stuck paying more than most people.

Virgin prices are very complicated for me to take it in as there is no equivalent package to what I have just now - I am not after faster broadband - I just would like to pay my fair share but its impossible to do this online

I dont if you aware you can nominate someone to speak on your behalf if thats any help. They would need to ring customer care for you to see what VM require from you to do this.

Yes but they would have to be clued up over what other people are paying and going by other posts they tend not to want to drop the overall payment but say increases the broadband speed.

Its all wrong really - if I walk into a Supermarket I can see the prices but Virgin are charging many people a different rate than others.

It does appear the only way is to pretend a person is going to quit and then see what they offer

someone posted on another forum they have

    XL TV
    Tivo 500gb + Second V+ box
    XL Phone
    30MB BB
    line rental

    all in £55

its as if they make up the prices depending how they feel that day.

thats not actually all that different from what your getting. If you have broadband and tv, the phone is usually free, so by getting a landline it wont cost you anything more, and can sometimes work out cheaper.

the 30mb and 20mb BB are actually the same, the 20mb just hasn't yet been updated and can be area dependant.

a 2nd box is even thrown in free with some of the collections as well.
i think your lack of landline is whats making it expensive

well here is another example - customer called claimed they were leaving and this is what they are charged

    2 Tivo boxes
    XL tv
    30mb Broadband
    with Virgin line
Total with line rental is £41

I live in Enfield so there is no restrictions re the speed

The charges they make is all over the place and is ok if you get a good deal while all the rest of us have to pay higher for the same service.

£10 extra per month works out at £120 per year so in my book I am being overcharged just because I cant speak to them on the phone.

It's your lack of landline that inflates the cost of your subscription, nothing to do with not being able to talk to them.

I have already explained why I am unable to speak to them - its nothing to do with not having a landline.

its weird that just because I don't need a landline that I have to pay more - no sense at all.

Yes, but it's it's your lack of a landline which is inflating the price. The answer is simply to "upgrade" to a triple play package of TV, telephone and broadband. It's likely you'll actually end up paying less that way (especially if you don't actually use the telephone!)
