I realized antoehr factor maybe that I wash my underwear, including socks which are the biggest culprit for odours in with the t shirts, so maybe at 40 it jsut ripens the odours up nicely to mix in with the t shirts.
Should I do underwear seperate for this reaosn? i was jsut trying to be econmical but obv wont if it defeats the object of cleaning the clothes.
rubbish. 40 degrees is enough to clean pant and socks without imparting odours to anything else.
You're not drying stuff quick enough.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Ariel do an anti bacterial washing powder you can get it at Makro I can't see it online, but they do it in store. http://www.aquaticandpetwarehouse.com/products/ariel-antibacterial-washing-powder-100-wash.html0

So i washed them on 60 degrees and they smell great now tho wearing will be the real test- but i know that as soon as i used to take them out on 40 i would smell that smell and didnt when i checked them when i took them out this time.
I also just ironed them after having them on the rack and they still smelt good and fresh- another good test cos the heat kicks up the smells.
Now the ultimate test is wearing which im gonna try tonight with the offending article from the OP if i feel brave/confident enough going out in public which i think i do due to the previous indications.
One issue tho is I see 60 degrees wrecked a cpl of my printed t shirts a bit so they wont stand many washes like that so i think ill try 40 on a separate load of t shirts only maybe with one of those antibacterials you guys suggested.0 -
40 degree wash + antibacterial powder is the way to go.
Also do en empty boil wash once a month with some anti-bac powder.Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0 -

The "clean-out" 90c wash is a good tip - and I think some manufacturers have now started to recommend it.
Agreed this is what find especially with synthetic fabrics.
Take out of the washing machine as soon as finished and give them plenty of space between them when drying. Hth0 -
I never leave it in at all cos i know the leaving in is bad.
anyway, my test was a success!!
Last night I went out wearing the original t shirt in question. I was in a HOT club, sweating a bit and was considerably warm and it stood the test and passed with flying colours!0 -
I cured this on ours by pouring half a gallon of vinegar in and washing that through with an empty machine0

Hi,
I know exactly what you mean. Some of my cotton t-shirts do that but not other clothes (And they all smell ok when they come out of the machine, 40C wash). And sometimes they are ok but wearing them (body warmth) makes the smell become more noticable). The only reason that I notice is not fast enough drying. Atm I can't dry my clothes outside (garden is a building site) so I hang them up in the conservatory with the windows open and usually all is fine. But recently some cotton t-shirt smell like you described and I think it's because now they don't dry fast enough because the air is so humid because of the rainy weather and there isn't a breeze. So the solution would be to dry them quickly (tumble dryer) if you can't hang them outside.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
I cant believe that so many of the above are posting the wrong information, I'll answer the OP for you.
Mrquimps, this could easily be resolved if you removed the big lump of cheese that you are putting in the machine, its not just a clump of powder
